  • Is there 2 year minimum? What is the second year cost?

    • +1

Doesn't appear to be a 2 year minimum. I just purchased a domain for 1 year for a total charge of $1.05 via PayPal.

'puzzled: ABN is req'd, but one can own an domain
        that's primarily for "monetisation"

That could mean, IMO, reg'g one as a long-term
        investment. right?

Should one need an ABN for such a domain name reg.?

If Not, you won't get one from this vendor, as
        - here - an ABN is req'd B4 you can reg. anything. :~/

        • Pardon?

  • Friend, whats the renewal cost? Currently getting a .com domain for $30/y through namecheap.

    • $15.95 is what my renewals cost.

Not to be picky, but its actually $1.05! :)

  • Do we need abn to purchase domain name ?

Personal domains or hobby sites can’t be purchased by an individual ?

    • I got requested to supply an ABN or Business Name for a .com.au only, but not for a .com or a .id or .id.au

      • So individuals can never purchase .com.au without ABN?

        • Legally yes, but as you'll find with the number of policy deletes a large number of people put someone else's ABN or a friends.

        • INAL but I understand that in order to register .com.au domain names you will need to supply either:
          an Australian Business Number (ABN)
          an Australian Company Number (ACN)
          a Registered Business Number (BN)
          or a Trademark number

Technically you can use anyone's ABN to register a .com.au domain. Problem only arise if the ABN owner wants to steal/claim your domain, however your email is still the registered contact. The ABN owner won't even know there is a domain registered using their ABN.

  • Is this available for VentraIP domain renewals?

  • What's the renewal cost for .com.au?

  • Excellent thanks rep was after a cheap new domain name

  • what are some good available extensions that won't ask for abn?

    • Depends what you want. I have .website for my personal site, also looked at .online. You can often find them for $5 or less. I got mine for ~$100 for 10 years. But those domains tend to be less visible than .com, .org, etc.

    • Anything other than .com.au, .net.au and .org.au.

  • Dang, i wanted NGPriest.au

  • Just thought I'd mention that although I've been happy with VentraIP for a couple of years, they started sending me SMS marketing recently. I'm considering leaving over that.

    • Boohoo opt out.

    • Okay, so apparently OzBargainers are okay with unsolicited SMS marketing, despite the phone number being given only for the purpose of domain registration. This is exactly the same as Facebook using phone numbers given for 2FA for their marketing purposes, which caused an uproar.

      • Friend, dont sweat it, there's a weird downvote culture on ozbargain which downright makes no sense. You made a point that was valid and genuine criticism. Probably a downvote bot (jk).

        • Don't worry 'bout me. I think I've been coming to OzBargain for over 12 years. My skin is thick. I was just surprised since I thought people here were generally the type to actually care about their privacy somewhat.

  • Why does Ventraip require DOB when creating an account?
