    New cars are delivered waxed.

  • I prefer to wait .. up to 2 yrs if it is garaged.

Don't try polish it if you don't know what you're doing mate, high chance you'll make it look worse. If you want a little protection just stick to a basic wax. If you are actually keen on learning, ammonyc on YouTube has great tutorials.

100% this. So many people think "I'll just go and polish my car with some random stuff I buy at the supermarket" not realising that polish is abrasive and should only be used in specific circumstances and by someone who knows what it is and how it should be applied.

Maybe buy some cool sunglasses and put your elbow out through the window. No polish.

Don't polish. Wash using 2 bucket system. Use quick wax after washing. Don't use a chamois. Use a micro fibre to dry. Lots of good YouTube vids for car care. Don't take to a auto car wash unless brush less. That only really gets you a maintenance wash on between your own car wash. IMO. You want to avoid touching the surface. Everytime you clean your car you have the chance of putting swirl and scratches on it if you aren't doing it the right way.

    • I discovered the 2 bucket system a while back. It makes so much sense! I will have to look into the micro fibre. I also wash just at the end of raining, as dirt has well be softened up.

Thanks for the reply's, should of said i wouldn't be doing it myself. Get my car detailed yearly. Will wait and see how it goes, i swap them every 5 years.

    • If you swap every five years, just wait for 12 months the go and get a detail.

  • Polish is an abrasive process to remove minor swirls etc. A just delivered care shouldn't need it. Wax/sealant is a protective coating.

My process is first wash I do a full strip to remove the unknown product the dealer applied and then apply my own choice of protective coating. I then use top up protectants during maintenance washes and do an annual strip and detail (which I'm doing this weekend if the weather is OK)

  • Ok, so if brand new is already waxed so should be ok for 6-12 months?

    • It SHOULD be, but I wouldn't bank on it. Call the dealer and ask if they did it.

Otherwise it won't hurt it at all to use a cleaner to remove whatever the dealer may have put on and get it professionally waxed. At least you will know it is done properly that way.

      • Depends on climate as well. Some waxes will only last 3 months

        • True.

And some cheap shit isn't even worth putting on. Like most cheap brand wash and wax combo stuff is useless compared to a hand applied caruba or synthetic wax

  • Did you get paint protection from the dealer?

    • Nope

  • Never polish a new car

Polish removes some of the surface paint - thats how it works

Your car will look much worse

      ??????

      All cars are clear coated.

    • If you have the money, having a new car paint corrected then sealed is one of the best things you can do. Looks completely different

    ceramic paint protection now
