I wonder how many years it will take to launch in Oz?

i guess google does not have faith in our internet speeds as yet

Same reason PS Now is not available in Australia

  • I'm curious the ability for it to run on a VPN with proper NBN speeds

    • +3

Even with VPN and fast broadband won't be able to overcome the physical limitation that causes high latency to US and EU based servers.

      • Yeah latency seems to be the one that will cause issues. Single player maybe, multiplayer I imagine would be out of the question

  • I’d give it a go with a free trial - very curious to see the feasibility of this.

  • Why own the games when you can pay the price but not owning it?

    • It's more targeted at those who can't drive 1080p60fps on their own, so they use Stadia to do it. So that's not the correct comparison, the correct one would be why pay $1500+ for a PC that can run 4k60fps when you can pay $10/month for Stadia to do it for you. Either way, you still purchase games seperately.

      • Interesting opinion, i have to admit i never think about this side of the market. But, do you think stadia is a tempting options for those not owning a home console or PC? This group of gamers is what we usually called casual gamers, i don't think money is the factor that makes them 'casual'. Maybe it's the disinterest on major games?

      • For the major release games these days. People can't really find enjoyment out of it if not stay and play for at least 20 minutes or more in one sessions. Stadia can turn every game into mobile games, this is awesome, but do people willing to spend more than 20 minutes in gameplay when playing on a mobile?

Probably not in AAA titles where you want to experience all the ray-traced rendering on the big screen, but I can see people spending 20 minutes playing some casual games on their phone. Or games with multiple modes — you can do the boring grinding section of the game on the phone during commute.

Or just pop the phone into those VR headsets.

This would be great for gaming on the go.

Just open a chrome browser or your Pixel phone and play anywhere anytime.

Don't have to carry your expensive gaming laptop somewhere or your desktop to a hotel or grandma's house.

Might fit the needs of some definitely not hardcore gamers but I can see some people with no pc doing this definitely.. I mean I got netflix for a little while because it beat going to the movies with my family all the time.. we could just log in up to 4 at a time and relax at the end of a long day for a fraction of the price.

Similar concept here except yeah if you are going to be away from your gaming machine a lot this is a good option also cool.. AAA gaming in a browser.. I am excited.

But yeah will probably be decades before anything remotely similar appears down under here.

May not even ever happen at all for us Aussies.
