+1.
Too many animations and transitions will just annoy your audiencehttp://blogs.office.com/b/microsoft-powerpoint/archive/2011/…
You can download free and official templates directly from the MS Office templates database.
I often use fade-in and fade-out for the bullet points. And I use animation to make graphs etc appear at certain points, or an arrow to appear rather than using a laser pointer. But that's about it… subtle is definitely best.
I've seen many good presentations where the presenter hasn't used a single word on the powerpoint slide, and instead opted to use images. Steve Jobs for example, in his keynote / powerpoint presentations uses very few words and keeps them very simple and minimalistic.
A few images on a slide is much easier to take in than a big wall of text or bullet points.
If you have to use graphs or flowcharts, keep them big and simple to make it easier to understand at a glance. The key to a good presentation is not in the Powerpoint slide, it's the way you talk to the audience. Look at how Steve Jobs does his keynote speeches and you'll see what I mean.
Animations make your PPTs look REALLY cheezy unless you are skillful in how you use them.
What exactly do you want animated - just the headings or bullet points?
You can do that yourself to a non-animated template, if you want.
