  • Great price. Can't seem to find more than a handful of reviews for this model but from what I can see this would do the job quite well for game storage but maybe not your best option for an OS drive, unless you're upgrading from a HDD in which case any SSD would be a vast improvement.

    Would people recommend this or the BX500 for similar price?
    (Using to replace 5400rpm HDD in laptop)

      • BX500 is DRAMless, the one they sent for reviews appeared to have DRAM. However, people have complained that they swap the chipset (and possibly the NAND) and making it DRAMless.

      Mate, at this point you can replace that 5400 rpm HDD with a potato and it'll still run faster.

      Upon saying that, I'll trust Crucial more than this.

    • It appears that the maker swapped the chipset and NAND chips depending the batch. So there is a bit of a lottery.

      • Thanks for the effort. I saw those, but was hoping for real world experiences as I'm pretty sure that those numbers aren't sustained numbers. I'll be writing/reading upwards of 400MB/s and need it to be sustained so that I don't have drop outs with playback.

      If your video work relies on writing more than about 20Gb of data at a time then a cheap SSD like this one would be a terrible choice. They all rely on a small SLC NAND cache that then gets written to much slower MLC or QLC memory. If your cache fills up and can't be purged in time before more data is written then write speeds fall off a cliff.

  • I had a 500Gb Silicon Power A55. It worked fine for about 3 months but then I noticed the bad block count started to rise. After another 3 months it rose exponentially and reached 17 bad blocks, and then the drive became extremely slow and unusable. I managed to copy all the data off it but was surprised the drive effectively failed when it still had 83 spare blocks to remap to.
