BOSE Sunglasses - Would You?

Received an email from Myer offering a pre-order on these:
https://www.myer.com.au/p/bose-174-bose-frames-alto

At $299, I'm not sure it is a deal, but I'm more intrigued with the product itself.

Does anyone have any hands-on knowledge?
Would you be tempted (perhaps if the price was lower)?
Will they just be another quirky fad that will die off in a few months?

Saw these advertised via JB new technology email. I'm in the "no" camp.

These apparently sound really good. Their neckband thing is pretty neat too, and this seems like a less intrusive alternative.

But the use case for both is incredibly tiny.
The only thing I can think of for the neckband is if you work/study from home, with other people you don't want to disturb with speakers, but you want to listen to music, and you don't like headphones.

These would have to be for people who want to listen to music outside, but don't like headphones, can't blast speakers, and like wearing sunglasses.
Maybe runners will like them, or people outside doing construction or gardening or something.

If you're in some tiny sliver of a niche these could be really decent and practical. For anyone else, high chance it'll just gather dust or seem like you jumped on a fad.

  • Id throw these up there with google glass.

To be fair, as dumb as these things are, they won't lead to 55 year old men taking pictures of themselves trying to look like douchebag hard rock star Gene Simmons sticking out his tongue.

In the shower with no clothes on.

      So maybe not that bad.

LOl thought this was a joke at first.

I guess it means one less thing to carry as I nearly always take sunglasses plus headphones when i'm out and about.

The other thing I do hate about headphones is that you do look very socially disconnected/distracted while wearing them. This can make you more of a target for crime, particularly if you're female. Plus your broader awareness is a lot less with the music going directly into your ears, where as I wonder if with these, you can still pickup what is going on around you? Again this can be important from a safety perspective…even just something like walking and being able to hear a car coming out of a driveway more easily? Or being able to listen to music but engage in a conversation at the same time?

So I'm in the "interesting" case. I'd love to try a pair and see how it works.

    • Wow, TIL.

    • Yep, that is the product that crentist referred to earlier.
Maybe we need both; sunglasses for outside, neckband for indoors.

      • I saw someone using the neckband in HK in a shopping centre. People were getting ready to bash them.

  • I'm regularly seeing sunglass video recorders on Grays Online. Maybe these speaker sunglasses will be there soon as well.

  • Has anyone bought these yet? I’m keen on hearing some firsthand reviews!

Ps.: too bad the extra frame offer has expired, would have been a good motivation for a purchase.

  • I had a hands on experience in jbhifi last week. They are actually good, and you can’t even here the music until they are literally on your face. I was so surprised by how little leakage there was. I’m looking at getting some there on sale for $250 at Harvey Norman atm. You can get polarized lenses now also.

  • As a busy professional and audio enthusiast I can't leave home without my Bose true to sound audio underwear available now at Bose.no
