This is for a Motorbike lock.I live/work in West/CBD.
TIA.
I'll save OP the time, I doubt that Bunnings/MrMinit will have the blanks let alone the right machine to cut them.
you will need to go to a Locksmith
Bunnings etc cant cut those keys…. nor can those little kiosks in shopping centers.
Not sure where in Melbourne you are
but I had mine cut at Oakleigh Locksmiths on Atherton road Oakleigh
I am in Wyndham Vale. Will let you know how it went. TY
What happens with keys that have do not copy on them?
That is a legal issue and not a technical one. This one is just a D lock key.
I know this is probably a silly question since you probably already checked but I actually got told this when trying to cut at a local key cutting shop that was not able to do mine which was one of the bottom line ones but is there a number on the key you can call because my one had a number and if I need a copy that is who I would call first then probably ask for recommendations online here or reddit/whirlpool/etc.
@AlienC: A lot of the time, the keys with "do not copy" on them are restricted profiles and are not available to places like Bunnings or Mr Minit. It's not that they won't copy them, it's the fact that they won't have the blanks and can't copy them.
The keys OP are asking about have to be cut on a special machine that places that just do house keys won't have. They will have to take it to a locksmith to get it done correctly on the correct machine.
@AlienC: Thanks. Will check with bunnings this weekend update this thread.
I got this lock from Aldi specials so there is not much hope if I call them. The lock was called TURBO bike lock.
I suspect your key is one model of a series from Abloy. Try first contacting Abloy office in your state to enquire nearest location of Abloy approved locksmith with specialised and RESTRICTED key cutter equipment, which is very expensive gear so MOST locksmiths will not be so equipped. Most likely you will have to travel some distance for such specialised service.
Or else you will need to ring around many locksmiths till you track down an approved Abloy locksmith with such specialised equipment.
Last time I had an Abloy key cut (see first key on chart), it was $25 per key in Chatswood, Sydney. I suspect your later series key could well be dearer than that.
Would it be cheaper to buy a new bike lock?
Yeah brilliant idea … you're thinking say something like this:

Has legs eh. Saves a lot of running about and $18.05 to boot.
I bought another lock!!!.
Try Bunnings or Mr Minit
