How to Get Maximum Bargain with The Auto-Dealers?

I’m buying my first car and decided to go with Hyundai i30 Go. Now that I have decided the model, I’m getting anxious on how to bargain with the dealer. I’ve heard that the driveway price can ho down $4/5k under if you can bargain strong. Any tips Bargain Experts?

Go through some old posts. Many ideas.
    1. Don't buy any of the aftermarket accessories- ie tint, car protection.
    2. Pay cash.
    3. Get your own finance.
    4. Test car first. You may not like it.
    5. Get them to throw in extras say Mats boot matts to close deal. Full tank of petrol. Slim plates?
    6. Have a firm price and go to a few dealers. Start at the furthest and then do the actual deal at closest. Go to the otherone will give you an idea of price. Stay firm. They will try and increase your budget. Just walk away.
    7. Let them know you are keen to do deal today, but need this price. Driveaway.
    8. Know exactly what extras you want first to know exact price you are dealing with. Auto. etc. Any other features, alloys.
    8.Good luck.

Wait a minute, there are two number 8s! What are you trying to pull here?

    • One option is to add all the after market stuff like tint seat and paint protection. Making sure the price is itemized from the car. Get the price of the car down cos they think they got you on aftermarket items. Then at the last monent drop the after market from your quote.

Buyers agent. Many companies will find the cheapest price for you and save you money.

"I’ve heard that the driveway price can ho down $4/5k under if you can bargain strong."

Let's be realistic bruh, you're not going to get $5k off the price of your 'mint choice'..

Exactly… Might be able to get $5k off a $70,000 Santa Fe, but OP is not getting $5k off a i30 Go.

    • Yeah you're not getting $5k off a $20k car. Aim for 10% on something at that price point and be prepared to walk out and try another dealer. For that you'll likely need to find someone who has the exact model and colour you're after in stock and want to clear it and you'll need to be ready to sign on the spot. Could always try a broker as well, probably going to be easier and quicker than driving around to multiple dealers.

  • Hints are;

Don’t listen to the dealer. If their mouth is moving, they are talking shit.
Do your homework on what is a reasonable price.
    Stick to that price.
Be willing to put a deposit down.
Don’t be afraid to walk away if they just won’t come down in price.
Be reasonable with your expectations. Don’t go in there thinking you will get $4~5k off a i30 Go.
Don’t engage the Ming Mole. Unless something is being thrown in for free, you don’t want “paint protection/window tint/rust proofing/kangaroo whistles”. These things will be cheaper if you get them done yourself.
Only put a deposit down on what you feel comfortable paying. Ie: be 100% sure you are happy with the car and the price, because as sure as shit, you will find the same car a month later somewhere else for less.

Do your homework on what is a reasonable price.

Take a look on whirlpool. They normally have a thread + spreadsheet on what people have paid recently for specific models.

  • And make sure the contract you sign stipulates 2019 build and also a firm delivery date

    • check the VIN on the contract against redbook to make sure you're getting the right car.

      • My contract for my Subaru didn't have the vin, car rego or anything like that listed on it and the car I got was what was promised verbally so it's not a dealbreaker if vin is missing imo.

        • +1

Definitely not a deal breaker, but you're more likely to get a good deal on a car that's 'in stock' (ideally something in the dealers' holding yard) and then the VIN should be in the contract.

If the dealer needs to order your car from the factory or shuffle stock with another dealer or the importer, then the VIN isn't going to be know when you sign the contract.

@salmon123: They had mine in the yard at the time too, no ordering needed. I'm pretty sure I got a good deal though I admit I'm not the best negotiator.

Ex Demonstrators are juat an expensive used car
Buy close to end of the month (dealer needs to meet sales quota)
