Step 1 - Ask for advice Go and actually sit in couches and work out size/material of what you like

    • Step 1 complete friend, but I haven't visited every single shop so reaching out if there's any I should visit.

Bargain does have to mean cheap and nasty.

Provided you aren't a germaphobe, you can find really nice 2nd hand sofas on Facebook marketplace and Gumtree being flogged for a tenth of their RRP.

    • Thanks, haven't looked on FB marketplace yet, will check it out.

      • Have a peek at ebay too.
My current sofa was $350 2nd hand off ebay. Genuine leather no marks or rips, extra comfy and still has warranty the lot. $2300rrp
Only recently discovered while looking for a coin that it also came with a couple of free peanuts. lol :p

    • This.

Search Gumtree or eBay for furniture in wealthy inner suburbs. The amount of near new great quality furniture being turned over is mind boggling.

Just remember that cheap leather sofas are made from fake leather aka pleather and will crumble on you and flake off after a few years and look horrible. If you want real leather you have to pay for it. 2k might get you one, just, but not a set of 2 sofas that’s for sure.

got a plush sofa on sale at 50% off rrp that came to around 2.6k, it's quite nice so far (2 yrs). not leather though

  • Find a place that sells ex-display furniture.

    • Yes. I got 60% off a display sofa from King! Not a mark on it. It is effectively brand new.

  • It all depends on your style, seats, fabrics, etc. My suggestion is that if your going with leather is to ensure that it is genuine leather. The fake stuff seems to flake after a few years.

Make sure the foam on the seats is wrapped in dacron as if it not it will sag within' a few years. Sadly this is the case with my 5-year-old lounge suite. Ensure the supplier will give you a decent warranty and actually assist you should things go wrong.

Some lounges can be really expensive for what they're are. Don't go too cheap but if you feel that a lounge is a rip-off, it generally is.

I find many new lounges are too low and narrow but that just a personal preference.

  • I bought a Natuzzi leather sofa suite and after 8 years it's still like brand new. The leather is still like new. You get what you pay for. It was about 4.5k for a 2 and a 2.5 seat set if I recall. Cannot recommend Natuzzi enough.

  • Have you tried buying a $2k couch days before it is discounted by $600?

  • Bay Leather Republic is awesome. Often their stuff is at Freedom too
