Dual Cab - Tray Liner and Soft Tonneau

We may be close to getting a dual cab and I've been looking into getting a tray liner and soft tonneau cover. Are genuine products (fitted at a dealer) the best option or are aftermarket products better?

I also came across Speedliner which is a spray on rubber type protection since they say that liners can hold moisture underneath and potentially cause rust. Anyone have experience with Speedliner?

Any assistance appreciated.

  • What state?
Uniute Melbourne have a cover I believe, think it's about $300 for a custom fit liner. Check gumtree for soft covers (if you've the hooks for it already)
The spray on type are pretty decent but can't comment on price

    • Thanks. Speedliner is about $1,000 so a fair bit more than a plastic liner.

Get a spray on tub liner, so much better than the plastic ones!

Genuine tonneau cover generally looks and fits the best from what I've seen.

    • This. I’ve got a rhino lining in my Ute. It’s tough as … and still looking good after chucking all sorts of stuff in. I find the plastic liners very slippery compared to the spray on stuff, meaning your stuff slides around a lot more on plastic.

Another vote for spray on, we got Rhino lining 10 years ago, had gravel and all sorts in there without a problem. Held up really well. If you are going to keep the ute for a while then spray on.

    • Agree.
Ours was done 18 years ago. One chip which was user error.
We use the oem/dealer soft cover occasionally, mainly stored folded up in shed.

  • Thanks guys - appreciate the quick replies!

  • What are you planning to put in the back? soft tonneau is obviously not as secure as a canopy or hard top. Also dealer installation is usually the best and quite competitive. I purchased a dual cab recently and got a whole bunch of extras that after market shops like ARB and TJM could not match on price with what the dealer was offering.

    • I’m glad I have a soft cover, it does limit security and isn’t waterproof. For me this is outweighed by convenience for hauling oversized stuff, bikes in my case. Also means if carrying smaller stuff I won’t be fined for uncovered load.

      • I did as well, but then I went a hard cover eventually as the bikes got palmed onto the tow bar. Soft cover is only a couple hundred though, so it served its purpose for me and is great value.

  • If mine hadn't come with a plastic liner I'd definitely have got a spray in liner. Tonneau I can't say as I haven't bothered, I never leave anything in the back if I'm not around. Hard canopy etc is an option but they still only stop the opportunistic thief as they can be opened in about 30 seconds anyway.
