SMS Backup+ (Plus) by Jan Berkel

Hi everyone.
I have been using this App for a long time and love it!
It is very good for our small business because 90% of the population love SMS, young and old.
And I was able to email my Teammates for any SMS that come in.
It saves all SMS in a folder in my Email. So easy!

However, it seems that it has not been supported for a while, and I am devastated.
I tried to do a BackUp and the screen gave me the impression that it will work on my request,
But alas it doesnt seem so….

Had been searching for months for something similar, even wrote to Jan Berkel!
There are a few that seems overly complicated.

And BTW, I use Android…….

Looking forward to any help, I will be forever grateful.

SMS backup software is kind of unneccessary now since Android 8.1 brings in SMS backup.
    https://www.androidpolice.com/2018/04/27/backup-sms-text-mes…

You can also use ADB (android debug bridge) commands, connect your phone to a pc with ADB installed, then use the following commands

    adb shell
    bmgr run
    bmgr backupnow appdata
    bmgr backupnow --all.

This starts a cloud backup of the entire phone.

    • For instance, you can't read those messages off-device, and you can't save them long-term. In such cases, this automatic system might not fit your needs, but there are alternatives.

Seems like OP wants to be able to back them up elsewhere and have them readable elsewhere

      • Thanks Spackbace. You understand me very well!
With SMS BackUp+ (PLus), I am able to see them in my Gmail anytime anywhere…

  • I loved this app. So good to be able to receive texts in your email. It stopped working a year ago from memory - phasing out of a certain authentication in gmail. I think you can still use it with a different carrier.

    • Which other carrier please @dassaur?

🤯 have been using this app for years myself. Was not aware it's no longer being maintained. What a shame. Mine does still work though (s8, Android 9). Had a look at that link for 'Android backup' Scrimshaw suggested, but it totally misses the point for the sake of being technically correct. It's not even close to being the same thing feature wise unfortunately.

Did you mean you have all your SMS in your emails now? That's hope for me!
I have changed email, reinstall and all that… Nothing seem to work.
Might have to do a factory reset!

SMS and call log to Gmail, and labelled. Call log to calendar also. I really like that, useful for me.

I have had it for years, but also on this phone since new, and it's worked through all major updates, no problem. Are you sure you've given it all the permission it needs on the phone? And also, are you sure Android isn't putting it to sleep, and not letting it run in the background?

        • Lovely, so happy for you!

I will check this later after I sort out my other first-world country problem LOL

  • Use SMS Backup & Restore which is probably the best sms backup app out there. So far i had no issues backing up sms and calls and restoring them every time i reset my phone (and i do that a lot for custom ROM flashing).

    • I think I tried this once but they are not as good as mine.
Will revisit after I sort out my other first-world country problem LOL

  • Hi Fans of SMS BackUp+!

Need help again and hope someone can share.
I have changed my GMail password and now unable to backup my SMS.
I did provided access to my Google Account, but it now says "This App has not been verified by Google".
Have also checked the Google Help Forum, also Community but cant find anything quickly.
Next might be to write to Google……

    Thanking you in advance :-)
