good on them for donating rice… not a bargain, but a good cause so i'll vote positive.
the words do get quite hard after a few though!Posted previously and presumably disallowed as that earlier post appears to have been removed.
I'm voting for this because I think it's a great thing!
it's 20 grains, not 20 grams - but still a good cause
Hmm … if you gave up a little bit of luxury for a day, maybe $1 or $2 and gave that to an appropriate charity, even after charity overheads that'd buy a heap more than 20 grains of rice …
I spent a few minutes of my time to not only donate some rice (700 grains) but I also expanded my vocabulary.
I guess I'm just a bit jaded today … it is a nice initiative set up by someone to use Internet advertising funds to pay for food in other countries.
It is a free and easy form of charity, only costing a few minutes of playing word games too …
The absent original post contained my thoughts on the matter, but in summary:
1). Some people believe it is a scam:
Is FreeRice.com making $150k each day in profits?
Incontrovertible Evidence That FreeRice Is a Scam
Conclusive Proof That FreeRice Is a Scam2). Even if it is not a scam, freerice.com is not a registered not-for-profit organisation. Thus it is not accountable, auditable or transparent.
3). It is not a bargain or freebie in the conventional sense of this forum. The original post was removed for a reason.
There are many initiatives similar to freerice.com. I hope no one would suggest that each of those should be individually listed here.
Thanks for the summary, and I can confirm that you have voted negative last time osim posted this deal (yes he posted the same deal in March that gets unpublished).
@scotty: Thanks scotty. I didn't realise osim posted it the first time.
I would vote negative again but IE apparently begs to differ.
With great respect to the wonderful cause of the site creator and the poster of this deal, this probably best suited in other medium, perhaps forum or blogs. Let's just focus this site as simply bargain site, not charity, donation etc..
Cheers
elcheapo..Agreed. A good cause, but not a bargain.
Even if they are donating Rice, this isn't really a 'bargain' IMO
