Hey everyone,
Longtime user of Paypal for direct debits, using Amex for points etc when making purchases.
Seems they had an issue direct debiting my savings account a week or so ago and I'm around $70 in debt to them.
They've "sold" this debt onto ARL it seems and I've got an email from them and a phone call.
Very annoying that they've sold it so quick considering I give my credit score a lot of attention and I would have thought with all the secondary cards that are linked to the paypal account they would have processed the "debt" on one of them.
Anyhow, my issue now.
Paypal is still showing it as a shortfall when I log in. What do you say? Pay ARL or pay Paypal to get this resolved tonight.
Paypal can't affect your credit rating so don't worry about that. You can ignore it if you want to, but having given them your real telephone number it may get a bit annoying, plus you really do owe the money (wasn't a buyer scamming you) plus it is a small amount so I can see why you'd want to get rid of it.
No point trying to pay PayPal as they have already been paid by ARL and have wiped their hands of it. If you want to be cheeky you could offer to pay ARL a bit less like $40 (they may just take it as it is easier than spending man-hours chasing you) as they would have paid a lot less to take this debt on so still a profit for them. Or just pay the whole thing if the small savings don't interest you.
The negative amount will go away from PayPal after a few weeks/months (this happened to me after I got scammed by a buyer for $400-odd - except I had a fake phone number in PayPal and just sent the emails ARL sent me to the junk folder, eventually they gave up after a month or two and I got my PayPal account back maybe 2-3 months later with the negative amount gone).
