Melbourne East, Value for Money Installer of Air Conditioner - Any Recommendation?

Just bought the 2.5kW Fujitsu AC as per the ozbargain deal, now I am looking for a value for money installer (qualified and not necessarily cheap).

Those that I googled quoted 4 times the price of the AC itself, $1,500-$1,800, probably because they're big companies with lots of overheads.

As such, anyone know a qualified installer (can issue certificate of compliance) around the Ferntree Gully/Ringwood area, please recommend.

Update 06/06/2019: Found these guys (Top Electric) on Hipages, registered, reasonable price, quick and no fuss service, will have to see how the unit goes but they offer 6 year warranty.

I would recommend the closest registered practitioner to your location. This will reduce travel costs oncharged to you.
This may require you to utilize a telephone.

  • Why don't you use one of those websites which allow tradies to bid for the job. You can then read their reviews.

    • Speaking from multiple bad personal experiences from those service websites, tradies that lurk there tend to be the bottom of the barrel desperate for work types who cant get other work through more conventional channels e.g. word of mouth and local advertising.

      • I had a good experience with my aircon installation through one of those websites so I suggested it.

Knowing what I know now though I wouldn't buy an aircon unit by itself anymore because whatever you save on it you pay with a higher installation fee.

        • Always been cheaper for me to purchase the aircon separately. There's no way a local installer would get pricing close to the big box retailers.

    • I have used Hipages and found a mop with quite reasonable price. Thanks

  • OP a lot of those companies want to sell you a unit as well as an installation fee. So because you have bought your own means their quotes will reflect the lack of a part sale.

I used Ezy Air for my aircon install and they were great. Cant comment on their pricing specifically as it was a little while ago but I remember they were fairly price competitive.

    • Used these guys as well for my install and they were really good. Price was comparable to other installers.

    • Their communication was very professional but I found someone else on hipages with better price.

try OneFlare, individual tradies will give you 3-5 quotes and you choose the guy u want

    • Thanks Vince, used OneFlare before, didn't have great experience with them.

      • are you talking about the company OneFlare or the individual tradie you chose?

i know there some bad fruits out there, but read reviews of the tradie your picking before you accept this job

        • Oneflare's service. Didn't find anyone to accept my job (conveyancing) so I assumed they don't have that many tradies available.

  • Base cost for a back to back install of a 2.kW Fujitsu (outdoor unit directly behind the indoor unit on an exterior wall and on the ground) shouldn’t be more than $800. That being said, there are a number of factors than can increase that price (mounting the outdoor unit to a wall, double brick, needing to upgrade your switchboard etc.)

At work (TGG) we subcontract AC installs out to qualified tradespeople and that’s the approximate base cost for Fujitsu installs. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    • Thanks, Slowey, really helpful info
