Campbells Chunky Soups Shrunk @ Woolies

Just realised this yesterday.
bought 3 tins of Campbells chunky soups from woolies (1/2 price special) and when putting away noticed that the one hienz can left looked bigger. I swear they used to be the same size. (looking at the online store the hienz tins are still 535g)
looked closer, the campbells soup are now 405g cans, they also now say single server on them instead of 2 serves like before.
I guess this has been like that for about a month since I remember buying a couple of tins at clearance that were the larger size. Now I know why they were on clearance I guess, can't have different sizes next to each other.

coles still has them listed as 500 g tins so just keep that in mind when browsing the specials.

not sure if this is going to spread but if the price drops a bit I think it's a better size, the bigger tins were a bit much for a single serve but also a bit small for 2 people.

I stocked up ages ago on Campbells tomato soup. Just in case there's WW3 and world shortage of soup.

  • That explains why they have been on special a bit more than usual. Often when they downgrade a size, they put it on special for two weeks, the first week for the old size to clear stock, the second week the new small size but cheaper than normal to ease you in. I noticed Annalisa beans and tomatoes are 400ish now, too.

  • The Country Ladle soups have shrunk in Woolworths too and are now classed as single serve. They are still the larger size in Coles. It makes no sense.

Cold outside. Thermal shrinkage. Makes sense.

  • Both Coles and IGA have kept the 505gm cans in the Campbells Chunky soup and the Country Ladle varieties.

I realised what was going on a couple of months ago and now have a large stockpile of the Chunky soups purchased at either clearance prices or half price.

    Campbells website lists both sizes.

Per gram, the new cans are more expensive.

I've been eating one of the 505gram cans as a meal so the smaller cans are no good for me.

  • Another shrunken product I noticed today: Frantelle 24 pack of 600ml water is now only a 20 pack.

    • which means the 12pk is now better value: $6.20/12pk = $0.51ea < $11/20pk = $0.55ea - wonder how long the discrepancy will last?

  • I hope my mortal coil never descends to such depths I despair over the size of a can of processed soup

  • They have two sizes the normal big ones and the recently introduced smaller tins.
