Telstra Home Phone Line for ADSL2+

I've had a Telstra Home Phone Line for 10+ years in combination with TPG ADSL2+. The line rental cost started out as $20/month with $30 for unlimited TPG ADSL2+, which at $50/month in total was very cheap for a good service. However, the Telstra line rental has crept up to $30 and will go to $32 on 1 July.

NBN is not coming to my area possibly for another year.

Does anyone still use this arrangement?

What would you use now? TPG ADSL2+ with home line rental $60/month until NBN arrives? Have you tried Optus line rental (bit cheaper I think) and can this replace the Telstra line rental to couple with the TPG ADSL2+?

  • How is 4G coverage where you are? Maybe you’re better off on something like Ovo?

  • I have been trying to get ADSL where I am, but Telstra says the ports are full, but they are not, it is all due to congestion.

Then last month a lady from Telsta Hobart rang me and said she would free up 'the paperwork" for me, but I have heard from no-one since.

I have tried several times to get ADSL connected. The first 2 times the local Telstra bloke was meant to run a line from my place to the exchange a kilometre away, but he never showed up at all.

The third time I was lucky, he was away and someone else came and ran me a line; it took him nearly 6 hours to run the line as the lines were not marked, there were illegal splits, there was even a line broken

Only to be told that the exchange had no spare ports; this is in a town of only 150 people, less if you leave out the kids

So I waited to find a Telstra worker, not the local useless pile of …., he went to the exchange and told me there are free ports, but it is congested. That is why the lady from Hobart was going to free up the paperwork so I could get ADSL

The next town down the line and the one after that got FTTN installed last year. There should be spare ports by now. Also, why would a fairly new microwave exchange be congested in a town of only 150 people?

I am more than sick of all this bullshit, I am also sick of being told I have to have satellite; satellite is the end of the line solution, so give me ADSL someone, I have never had ADSL in my life, I would love to try it before I leave
