Virtual Credit Card upon application approval?

Hey all,

I'm thinking of getting another credit card for Qantas Points since there's a couple of deals around. Problem is that I've got a number of large purchases to make asap, and I'm hoping to be able to get the card before then and waiting for the physical card may be too long.

Out of the following cards, does anyone know which banks give you a digital version of the card so I could literally use it the moment it gets approved, rather than wait for the physical card? Or is there no such thing? Sorry, I only bank with NAB and have read somewhere some banks generated a digital version (or virtual card).

  • Citibank Visa Signature Card
  • Qantas Premier Platinum Card
  • Bankwest Qantas World Mastercard
  • St George Amplify Visacard
  • American Express Platinum Card
  • ANZ Black

    It used to be the case that you could go to a branch and request a card which would be given to you on the spot with appropriate ID, however I don't think this has been a thing in years.

    The digital card is through Google Pay or Apple Pay or Samsung Pay or whatever the various token payment apps are.

    You can't get a digital version of the card until the actual card is issued and activated.
    Can't speak about other banks but Amex usually has cards to you within 5 business days from approval. Fastest I've had was 2 and all have been within 5 business days (unless the delivery company looses it).
