Subject: Sydney Buses: Longer-term MyMulti tickets will be reduced from 1 July, 2011

Monthly, quarterly and yearly MyMulti tickets will be reduced by up to $100 from 1 July. The savings reward regular customers who leave their cars at home and encourage others to adopt public transport.

It will also assist in reducing Monday morning ticket queues at train stations as customers who normally purchase weekly and fortnightly tickets take advantage of longer-term tickets.

MyMulti tickets cover travel across trains, buses and ferries.

Customers who purchase a Newcastle Green TravelPass will also notice a saving of $25 for a quarterly ticket and $100 for a yearly ticket.

These longer-term MyMulti tickets can be purchased at CityRail Stations from 1 July, or pre-purchased online at www.cityrail.info from 14 June.

The Newcastle Green TravelPass is available from station ticket offices, and selected 7-Eleven stores, newsagencies and convenience stores in the Hunter region.

Take advantage of these savings and consider switching to a monthly, quarterly or yearly ticket.

not sure what the fee's are
but i assume if ya got ur ticket in the last month, the refund weould be substaintial

  • Damn public transport, if they made more reliable + cheaper maybe people will appreciate it more.
Freaking STA draining all my money!

  • I am a uni student part time, but still need to go in 3-4 days a week and because of this, I cannot get subsidised transport. Having to shell out $35 or so for a MyBus 3 6+ TravelTen is a pain in the ass. hopefully it comes down quite significantly for me.

    • I don't think we get to benefit, I go uni 5 days a week, sometimes I need to go home by myself when I can't get a lift.
Only Mymulti's get price reductions, TravelTens don't :(
      I use a MyBus 2 + MyBus 3 each way.
And dude, it's $17.20 for a MyBus 3 concession, show your Uni card with the glittery sticker on it.

      • Why would you use two MyBus tickets for going 5 days to uni when you can buy a single MyMulti 1 which includes unlimited bus travel for a little more than a single TravelTen.

        • Because I usually get a lift there and back. Usually.
I occassionally need to use the bus because I can't get a lift, that's like once a fortnight.
          MyBus3= $17.20
          Each trip = $1.72
          MyBus2= $13.20
          Each trip = $1.32
Each way to Uni = $3.04
          Return trip = $6.08

          According to http://www.131500.com.au/tickets/fares/fares
          Weekly Mymulti1 is $20.50
Hardly do I ever use the bus more than twice a week, so a MyMulti 1 isn't worth it for me.

      • .

  • yeah i dont get concession though, cause im only part time my uni wont give it to me :( gotta do 3 or 4 units or more i think to get it.

    • Seriously!?
Which uni do you go to?

    • +1

Yep, concession is valid only for full-time students.

  • +1

    macqaurie

its the same with all unis though I think, only full time students get it.

    • +1

Plenty of students rort the system to get the sticker, though.

All this talk about getting more people on public transport, and they're continually raising the price of tickets. A green travelpass/mymulti 2 has gone up $4 since I started uni. That's 20%.

      • Yeah I know, I probably could have enrolled in one extra unit, got the sticker and dropped it but ill just stick it out.

  • +2

sydney people pay way to much overall for probably the worse public transport system in australia and its only going to get worse when your ferries get privatised. you guys get shafted bad!

  • Thanks for sharing :)

  • CityRail is non-profit organisation. If CityRail is to profit from operating, tickets will cost $16 return instead of $6.
You should see Hong Kong's MTR system. Profitable organisation, and travelling on it to go work cost 1/3 of the average income earners.

    • You should see Hong Kong's MTR system. Profitable organisation, and travelling on it to go work cost 1/3 of the average income earners.

I have been, it's very efficient. Depends what you call average income earners as well, it'll cost 1/3 of an hourly wage.

My return fare to work via student concession is 24% of an hour's pay for work.
      If I wasn't a full-time student it'll be 48.5% of an hour's pay for work.

      Same same.

If CityRail is to profit from operating, tickets will cost $16 return instead of $6.

If by that value of return fare, that would be 43% of my hourly pay, that's more than 1/3. But I never use trains cause my local train station is not near residential areas.
