Service for 2014 Corolla at Toyota Dealership or Local Mechanic?

Hi guys,

I would like to ask what is the advantage of servicing my car (2014 Corolla Hatch) at a Toyota dealership. The quoting price is around $100 more compared to a local mechanic. My car is due for the 42 months/70k kms service but I have only driven it for 43k kms

Appreciate your advice

  • No advantage

  • Is it still under warranty? Local mechanic will be fine IMHO. Corolla is an extremely common car, it doesn't need a specialist technician. Even if it's still under warranty, talk to the local guy about logbook servicing, pretty sure using a local guy doesn't have to void any warranty, but see what he says.

  • local dude - especially if he has a good reputation.

  • Local mechanic is usually the better option BUT check their reputation and if they use unskilled labour to do the work.
Even though dealerships charge more you can get less. They utilise apprentices on low wages to do your service and they are usually not supervised.
The best option is a mobile mechanic… a licienced mechanic will do the work, you can watch it being done.
They have access to manufacturers service buletins and will look up your VIN code before they commence.
Servicing your Corolla every 10,000km is very cheap insurance and worth doing.

  • If you've had all your TSA services, find a good private mechanic and stick with them…

  • You do not have to follow the 6 month schedule, even toyota has done away with it. Go yearly or 10k whichever is first

  • Thank you guys love this community ;)
