Garage door opened onto Car Hatch

Ok so yesterday I opened the garage door and had hatch on my car open. Got a Honda Civic and hatch is some kind of plastic. Part of garage door scraped a long about 2/3mm deep into part of the hatch taking off the paint and leaving an indentation in the hatch. Don't want to go though insurance for it. How can I get it repaired on the cheap, as otherwise the car is spotless.
Anyone done this and found a way to resolve without too much expense.

  • Panel beater. Make sure you tell them it's a cash job not going through insurance.

start ringing/emailing wreckers and buy a replacement hatch.

what year and colour is it?

can you post a pic of the damage/panel?

Start visiting panel beater shops for quotes, pick one, hand over car and cash. Problem solved.

this was painful to read, and im not talking about your car

Thanks for taking the time to read. So happy it hurt you :o)

  • I did the same in 2010 to my 2yo Octavia. I went to a recommended panel beater and paid him cash to fill the gouges and repaint the hatch.

It was $800 in non-metalic red. I only discovered recently that he didn't put the clear coat on. The rest of the car looks new. The hatch is all faded.

    • he didn't put the clear coat

more like factory paint VS joe blok 1+1 coat paint

      • No, he didn't clear coat it. It's really obvious now it's weathered

        • It's really obvious now it's weathered

the cheap-out 0.0001mm thin 1 layer clear coat has gone

factory has at least 3 coats over

    • $800 is a bit steep. I’ve seen a advertisement in the local paper that repaired bumpers years ago, not sure what they used but they went door to door doing it. Hatch is probably made of same material, wondering if anyone could advise if they used the services of such a company, wasn’t a panel beater and they didn’t spray bumpers. .

      • Bumper is ABS plastic. Hatch is metal and HUGE! (It's one of those sedan-o-hatch designs) The dent was 50mm wide x 250mm long x 5mm deep so they had to knock it out a bit before applying bog.
        Remove:
        Internal liner
        Exterior badges

        Repair dent.

Mask around area to be painted and rear window.
        match paint
        spray
        blah blah blah

I was fine with the price if it was a good job.

OP are you going to ask when you have a flat tyre or run out of fuel what do you do?

The answer is so obviously panel beaters who are the profession performing this function.

No as I can sort out a tyre myself. I’m not a paint sprayer or body repair expert.
If you can’t be helpful then don’t bother posting and go troll someone else.

No….No you don't need to be a body repair expert to know this. But by all means carry on..

Something similar happened to my man’s car last year. He ended up filling in the dent with some strong glue or liquid nails (not sure what it was), then he painted over it.
It looks terrible, but it was definitely “repaired on the cheap”

Just to be the devils advocate and at the risk of copping the wrath of the neggers, why not just leave it? You could pay to have it done and then do the same thing again the next week. If it doesn’t affect the functionality of the vehicle, just leave it. Ok, it may not look pretty, but the car still works.

Another alternative is, if it’s just a plastic piece, maybe source the part from a wrecker. It might be easier to just replace the scratched part.

    • But what's the point of buying a Honda if you can't show it off?

  • I will do it for $200. Bring it around tomorrow. Do you want it colour matched or will white house paint do the job?
