Hi, been porting between carriers for some years so pretty familiar with the monthly game. Since the beginning of this year have been having to talk to Optus each time I want to port back in to Optus.
It seems that when I leave Optus, they release the number as they are required to do, quickly and effectively. For example to Telstra.
When I attempt to port back, most recently after a 3 month cycle, although I am physically active on another carrier, their system refuses the port in and the chat people advise I am still active on Optus.
Then I phone them, work my way through the idiot flowchart, eventually get to someone with some capability, verbally identify myself with my details and my new Optus SIM. Then the Telstra SIM goes dead.
Optus then hold the port until I chat again and request a retry, which then goes through online immediately.
This has happened 3 times now.
I am wondering if any other SIM swappers out there can tell me if there is a clean way to exit Optus to avoid this issue.
Or indeed if anyone is having similar problems.
I don't have the same lockout problem with an Optus MNVO, Amaysim for example.
I just use a dual sim phone to avoid this.I have one permanet number on a cheap plan for incoming calls and use whatever is cheapest and most suitable for outgoing calls.I find Optus best for my disposable sim/number as they do not require any payment details on set up simply throw the card away when it expires and start again.
