Best Card to Use in New Zealand for EFTPOS Purchases and ATM Withdrawls

I'm heading to New Zealand this weekend and am wondering what is the best way to spend / withdraw money.

I currently have the following cards:
- CBA debit;
- Westpac debit;
- ubank debit;
- Westpac credit;
- Amex credit.

I believe all the cards listed above except the ubank card charges 3% forex fee per EFTPOS purchase / ATM withdrawal.

Also not sure what rate the banks will use to do the currency conversion.

I think ubank doesn't have any foreign fees for ATM or EFTPOS, in which case, I think that's the way to go? Are there any particular ATMs to use for ubank in New Zealand?

    This response is for next time and anyone else seeking an answer.

    Cards with No Overseas Transaction Fees

    • So the question I now have is, in particular reference to ubank, which ATMs in NZ charges a fee to the user?

      • They don't.

        • Perfect!

  • Any particular need for cash?

    I’d use Westpac just on the basis you can easily pop into a branch if needed

    • Actually, scratch that.
      When I used my Westpac NZ card in Aus and I had a question, I had to contact Westpac in NZ as Westpac Aus couldn’t access information on my account.

      When you go to take cash out it displays a conversion rate on screen and asks if you want to confirm the rate and proceed with transaction

      • I see.

        To answer your initial question. Not really as I have heard that most places take Eftpos.

        • That’s right, basically everywhere takes eftpos and there’s usually no minimum spend on eftpos machines like Australia has

  • Macquarie debit mastercard, or if you meet the conditions ING orange everyday

    • Unfortunately, I don't have time to apply for a new card as I am leaving this weekend…

  • UBank, no international conversion fee. SAVE 3% ON EVERYTHING.

  • My trip last month I just used my CC everywhere as the ATM charges on my credit union debit card were eye watering. Didn't withdraw cash at all.
