Great price for this switch as it is very durable in its metal enclosure. Make sure to pick Amazon AU as the seller. Currently listed as being available in 1-2 months but surely it won't take that long.

It might take 1-2 months if stock is being slow sea freight ship imported to Amazon from overseas.

  • Showing $43 for me!! How did you manage to get $28 ?

  • +5

Here's a cheaper alternative ($25 with Amazon AU as seller) which looks the same specs-wise, only difference being that the ports are at the back, as is the power port.
    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B00KFD0SYK

Also, you get 5% off if you're a Prime member, bringing it down to $23.75

Metal housing is well worth the extra.

      • +3

That may be the case for some, but for me I prefer one where the ports and power port is at the back, to suit my existing setup. Each to their own.

    • 1 left in stock now.

    • You mean https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/aw/d/B00KFD0SYK/ref=ox_sc_act_i…

      The link you gave says:

      Price: $37.70
Note: Not eligible for Amazon Prime.

  • Same price at Dick Smith/Kogan.

  • Does this model support POE?

Description suggests it does but not in specs

"Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) support is also available for supplying both power and data"

    • Looks like it doesn't - that's the NETGEAR GS308P
      Description is a bit misleading

    • I think the NETGEAR GS308P supports POE not the GS308

  • Whats the difference between normal network switch and unmanaged switch ?

    • I think it's just plug and play

      • +3

Correct. A managed switch you have to log in to and configure

        • +1

A managed switch you can login and configure, not have to. If you don't, it'll run exactly like a plug-and-play unmanaged switch. That would be a waste though. :)

    • +3

Managed ones can do VLAN to segregate traffic but needs a configuration and some knowledge

12% cashback with Shopback (ends 23:59, Monday 27/5)

Also, I think there should still be FREE delivery, if total is over AU$ 49 (ie. more than 2 x switches),
so find another OzBargainer in same city, to share the cost of buying 2 x switches :-)

  • Does this switch also support PoE? Only mentioned in the description "Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) support is also available for supplying both power and data across a single CAT-5 ethernet cable to devices such as IP security cameras, VoIP phones, wireless access points, etc.", however not anywhere else in the specs.

  • Be careful with Netgear, I bought one of these switches and it had software issues after a week.
Support couldn't fix the issue and authorised a return

    • +11

      It's unmanaged though

  • +5

Awesome, just got one with the $30 voucher I got from the 10TB drive pricing error a few days ago

    • Do you still get the 12% Shopback cashback if you use the $30 Amazon credit? I'm in the same boat so keen to know

      • that would be filthy. Shopback apparently takes a couple of days to come through so I'll have to wait and see

        • +4

cashrewards seems to be lazy these days. Hear more of shopback offers lately

Great price for thiis. It’s a shame to see the price for the cheapest 8 port 10GbE switch is still as high as $800 on Amazon AU.

    • 10gbe ports are usually utilised for uplinks/downlinks. What would consumers want with one?

      • +1

There are plenty of uses for 10GbE now for consumers, especially with NVME SSD’s becoming more and more common. Even the Apple Mac Mini and iMac Pro have 10GbE networking.

    • I managed to get the 5 port 10GbE Netgear Xs505m during the last 20% off sale. You'll probably be able to get it (or the 8 port) cheap during the PEOFY sale. That's also if you're going for unmanaged.

  • I have a feeing that it's GS308-100PAS with forient plug, not australian model GS308-100AUS, did anyone confirm the model number?

    • It’s the Aussie plug.

  • Anyone one what is different between the 108 and 308?

    • +1

The GS308 is a SOHO switch aimed for the home market, 3 year warranty.
The GS108 is a business-grade switch with lifetime warranty.

      • Ok thanks. Specs are identical so assume better parts used in the 108

  • The term ‘unmanaged’ sounds negative - what does it do?

    • +1

Put simply, unmanaged just means … "normal". It lets all your devices talk to each other.

A managed switch is only used in larger corporate environments where there's a need to have virtual LANs, monitor stats, QoS, etc.

    • It means that it's not a smart switch. Instead it's an old fashion switch which has no traffic management feature.

  • Has anyone received their switch?

    • Ended up ordering a 208 - it arrived today.

    • Mine is still at the "We've got your order" stage, "Arriving Jun 24 - Jul 23".

      • Thanks. A bit of a wait for me then. I ordered mine through another ozbargainer so can't check the status myself.

        • Still Arriving Jun 24 - Jul 23. :(

  • Mine got shipped yesterday.

  • Mine just got shipped yesterday. Previously it had an ETA of "Arriving Jul 24 - Jul 27" so it is way earlier than I anticipated haha. Woohoo!
