Amazon laptop return

H OXBs.

We purchased a laptop from Amazon Aus which has been returned for replacement. At this point in time Amazon CS aren't giving us a confindent date of when a likely replacement is coming other than in the order records a schedule when one might come by 26 June and one being supposedly shipped by 24/6. The item was returned 13/5. I have a feeling that by the 24/-26/6 that one won't be coming as online chat just advised to touch base with them again then if no update made. Currently the same model is unavailable on their website.

Has anyone made a return through amazon and received the replacement item within their replacement date schedule. As there is no currently stock listing I have a feeling it is all up to the supplier and we are just left in limbo.

Can we wait till 26/6. Yes. But 26/6 is ages away.

We want the exact same model as the price was very keen and the fault we think was just a once off.

I can cancel the replacement and get a refund, but to get the same model elsewhere will be another $325.

My concern is that Amazon won't replace the laptop and force a refund anyway. Then I will be left unable to get the same model again after this 26/6 date as the alterntaive stores have limited stock. So may not be able to get one again.

Opinion:
1 Wait for replacement.
2 Request refund now and just purchase elswhere, but will be more expensive.

Thanking you all in advance for comments.

  • just wait??? there is more then one kind of laptop and if its faulty best get a different brand ???

    • Appreciate there are other brands. For the price point and the spec of the model we ended up with we are still happy to stick with that model and brand. Will see what others will say. Waiting is so frustrating. I would have appreciated Amazon just to say straight out we cant replace it and give us a refund rather than just this extended date estimate.

      • you get a replacement turns out to be faulty too, just a risk.

Agreed with @Halvar, what's the actual fault, model and make of the laptop?
From experience, the fault is not always a one-off and there's a perfect reason this model is $325 cheaper than normal, and no stock too! What a great sign life has given you!
This is your 2nd chance to rethink your option at no cost.
They're most likely waiting for someone else to return their laptop and then give it to you.

You do seem to be contradicting yourself. If you can wait, then 26/6 shouldn't be an issue. If you are happy with the particular model and price you got for it, then there isn't much you can do as Amazon try to source your replacement. There isn't much of an incentive or benefit for Amazon to delay this replacement so it is not like they have set that date for fun.

If Amazon do stuff you around and offer a refund closer to 26/6, then push for credit to be added to your account due to the inconvenience.

If you want that particular model and are worried about stock availability elsewhere (due to the model being replaced etc), then take the refund and pay the extra amount now while you still see it as available.

This is unfortunately just tough luck. Nothing is made forever. If Amazon don't have it then you either accept the cash or wait.

It goes both ways, if the price goes down, as is common with electronics, then you could take the cash and buy another one cheaper.

  • What brand of laptop is it?

  • Update. As I had suspected. Amazon could not give me any firm date as the expected delivery date passed yesterday. All they could offer me was an alternative laptop at extra cost or refund. I took the refund. Luckily JB had the same computer last month, so we hedge our bets and just got them to price match. I just wanted to see what was going to happen. Nothing. Hopeless CS Amazon.
