Pocket Wi-Fi in South Korea

Hi everyone,

Will be travelling to South Korea by myself for 8 nights.

I planned to pre-book a pocket wifi via Klook however read that they require to see a credit card when I go collect it and also specifically say that don't accept debit cards (which is all I have). For me that just seems pretty weird so I just want to confirm with anybody who has actually been there if they really don't accept debit cards? If so, do I have any other choice?

Another thing I'm considering is to probably grab a sim card instead because that seems to be a cheaper option and much more convenient but I'm still not to sure what to go with so would be grateful for any suggestions. I have a Galaxy s10e from Vodafone but I'm not too sure if that is network unlocked and can be used in South Korea.

It is my first time travelling by myself and my first time in South Korea so would be grateful for any tips/suggestions for food, places to visit or just anything to watch out for.

Thanks.

  • Alternative is Rent a Sim card:

10% discount reserving online I did this with a couple of friends tethering off my phone. Super fast and unlimited.
Check conversion if this is cheaper as well I cbb via third party:

If your card is a debit mastercard/visa should be okay as long as it has positive balance. I had similar experience when I was younger.

    • Thanks for the links, I'll look into that.

  • I was in South Korea last month for 10 days. Free WiFi is literally everywhere and ridiculously fast - in some locations I have 5+ options of free wifi. I was in Seoul, Gyjonju and Busan and had no issue finding free WiFi in every hotel, city centre, cafe and bar. The KTX trains also have free WiFi that works well. Your phone will work just fine if roaming is on.

I only used about 200Mb of my own data over that time (I have a work allowance on my phone) and only used this because of the occasional weak wifi signal and when I forgot. I'd say that Korea has the best free Wifi coverage of any country that I've been.

    • +1

Thanks for the suggestion but I think it will be better to just have connection at all times just in case and I don't really trust public wifi.

Try this, I think they accept debit card.
