Does Sawstop Ever Go on Sale or Part of a Promotion?

I'm looking to purchase a cabinet saw for my hobby woodshop. I like woodworking but I also like/need 10 functional fingers.

I am ready to pull the trigger on a SawStop 3hp Pro Cabinet Saw and would like to know the best timing to purchase. I was hoping to catch the next Total Tools 20% store credit back promotion but just realised it will exclude this item as it is only available as a special order, hence excluded.

That would have been a good $1,000 I can put towards a dedicated jointer, but alas…

I "need" the item fairly soon (combat the winter "blues"). Was holding out for the promo which I now know is not going to help me.

I've tried searching for historical promos but I only found the American promos which only included bonus accessories and not discounts. Even then, the promos can be wildly different if regional distributors are involved.

Not interested in other brands unless it too can prevent digital loss and can crosscut dense hardwood with single phase.

Would appreciate any industry insider input and/or general woodworking banter.

(I know I don't need a SawStop to prevent loss of fingers as long as I follow all safety procedures and protocols and make the appropriate sacrifices to Floki… accidents are accidents and I don't like accidental accidents).

  • I think I made a mistake in the poll (subtle but if you look long enough…) but it will serve its purpose.

If there's a way to make my buck go further, details will be needed and will be in the comments anyway.

    Thanks.

    Thanks mod for changing poll.

  • No deals ever

    • Not even a free palm sander? :(

A part of my likes the concept of fixed pricing and a part of me wants a token discount.

Welcome to car sales in the future :/

        • I'm good at car negotiations. Personally bought many cars and even more for company and on behalf of friends.

I even managed to get you to take $100 off advertised price AND free floor mats.

I've seen at least some Sawstop models on sale at Carbatec at times, I was tempted a few months back but I really don't have the space. That said you can expect the price to go up very soon if it hasn't already now that Festool own them.

    • That's been the case for two years. I may just go ahead.

      Cheers for the heads up.

Ps. I never see SawStop in my "local" carbatec. Always special order only.

    • Heads up, Carbatecs EofY catalogue just launched today and it does include SawStop. No discount, just freebies like in the US.

      • Well that's something. I'm not going to look at an EOFY catalogue though, too tempting to buy stuff I don't really have the space for. Finish my big clean out first then fill it up again.

  • To the OP

Total tools have 20% cashback in tiers today only

    https://www.totaltools.com.au/spend-and-get

Saw stop professional 36" with T-Glide is $5029
you get $1000 back in giftcard with 30 day expiry

    • Offer excludes gift cards, special orders and account customer orders.

I've asked about this before. I have been told by multiple stores that the above exclusion applies.

One store almost let it through but I got a call later when the order was being placed that the offer does not apply.

I ended up buying through the offer I posted sometime later.

        • Oooh lucky.

@YLD1: Get the Forrest WW10407125 Woodworker II blade.

The stock blade is okay but you gotta feed it real slow. Also, it is not a very flat blade and it heats up fairly quick which throws it some more.

I have a few other blades but Forrest WWII is just amazing.

Get some cardboard to block the adjustment port. You get some 30% more suction pressure and less dust around the table. Also, it is a free upgrade.

And of course, spend a few hours and calibrate the table. Do the 5 cuts to verify parallel…

… and start saving again for clamps!!! Those bastards cost more than the saw.

                @[Deactivated]: thank you kindly

Total tools also had spend $3000 and get 20% back so I purchased the sliding crosscut fence, the overarm dust arm and the wheels. (don't tell the wife)

guess I should buy a crosscut blade too

                • @YLD1: Oh, I really want that sliding fence. Alas, I don't think I'll be doing much cabinetry. I mainly make mid century furniture (and honestly, predominantly shop furniture.)

Shit. You're going to have fun.

Since you're into cabinetry (and I've been told I am the Devil), you're going to want a dado stack (don't forget the dado brakes and table insert).

Oh, and how could I forget… Outfeed table!

                  • @[Deactivated]: Yeah I need those definitely.
I have a festool domino but should use a dado for more strength

The outfeed table is too expensive. I’ll just place another table on the outside and just make it the same height

                    • @YLD1: Nothing beats a custom outfeed. I can practically store my entire workshop in the outfeed.

                      Dado is amazing for drawers.

                      • @[Deactivated]: Wanting to ask

What dust collector do you have

                        • @YLD1: Carbatec 3hp with upgraded filters.

Compared with a few other setups, I would say it is middle of the pack in terms of performance and value.

I am certainly very tempted to upgrade to a cyclonic with a hard bin. I loathe emptying the bags and I have ripped two from moving the dust collector to an open space to undo and redo the bags.

The best one was the Harvey but we're talking 10x money but oh boy, it serviced a 8x10m shop with 2-3 tools running. It is on the essentials list for my purpose built workshop (planning stage).

                          • @[Deactivated]: Whoa you now how to spend

                            For a carbatec 3hp. They’re about the $3k mark

                            • @YLD1: Oh no no no. not the cyclonic 3hp. The standard crappy one.

                              • @[Deactivated]: they have a dust collector that you can attach to your dust extractor or just a vacuum to give you what you need

                                • @YLD1: Yeah, I tried the Dust Deputy (supposedly the original add on), and it is an overall improvement but it does take up a lot of footprint space.

I built a closet for the dust extractor as it is ugly and hella loud. The cyclone add on simply won't fit in the closet.

With the dedicated workshop build, I'm going to have the dust closet externally and have it on raised blue tongue structafloor. Running the ducts under is also significantly better on suction as there is less vertical height and overall shorter run.

May be too poor to afford that new workshop now but ah well. Lots of dreams are evaporating.

                                  • @[Deactivated]: Hi again

                                    A question regarding crosscuts

Does the forest wwii blade work well for crosscuts as well as rips

Or am I better in buying two blades

Using laminate and plywood for cabinetry

                                    • @YLD1: Crosscutters will work fine for rips. Not the other way around.

Specifically for the Forrest blade, I have used it for rips and it does a great job.

  • Wrong spot

    • Forgot I have a festool router with router table which I use for dados

      No need for dado blade

      • Not sure about MDF or ply but with hardwood, I'm always very nervous cutting dados with a router as it blows out the ends.

It's much easier to push a sacrificial piece at the end of my table saw dado cut to prevent the blow out that it is to do than with a router table. The router tends to kick the sacrificial piece and throws the end out a tiny bit.

        • That is true.

For hardwood I usually have a jig or track and plunge in the middle

That way it resolves that end issue

Just with dado blade, it makes me nervous having no blade guard. Though that’s the reason I got the sawstop in the first place.
I need my fingers for my work

          • @YLD1: The problem with the plunge is that you still have to cut to the ends. The exit is where the blowout happens.

I need my fingers for work too hence why the sawstop but I know many woodworkers that remove the blade guard for safety. The argument is seeing your fingers is more important than a giant chute that's supposed to knock them back.

The dado brakes will still stop the dado stack so it's not as if you're forgoing all safety.
