Are you sure that the upgraded edition is the "more sturdy" version?

Prior postings have suggested the original version without the ball & socket joint was less bulky and less prone to sagging.

    • +16

Can confirm the 360 ‘upgraded’ version is much crappier to the point of falling off multiple times per trip

      • So the one you posted last month wasn't any good either because they're both the same?

        • +1

Apparently so, given the number of times others pointed out words to the effect of, "yep these ones are bad, I also have both and my swivel one falls off as well" and his subsequent agreement and offer to mark the deal as expired.

        • +4

Yep can confirm this model is rubbish. I was confused because I ordered a few.

            @Bellpop: Thanks for confirming.

          • @Bellpop: Hasnt stopped it getting 67 votes and counting somehow… Maybe Labor should change their name to Rock?

I agree. I much prefer the older version as it kept the phone closer to the applied surface; this was especially good for “heavier phones”.

      • On the original version I had to cut the springs, and add superglue to the screw - this made it much easier to fit my cased iPhone 6s Plus.

Bought several of these for friends last time.
Great product especially for the price

    • Original version or this upgraded edition?

I've bought a dozen of the originals for myself and others and they have indeed been great.

Great deal to use in conjunction with this offer https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/457811

Don’t forget to activate the deal before purchase.

i dont get how this is good, tried similar different brand but the aircon vent is just too weak to hold the phone. am i doing it wrong?

    • Guess it depends on how loose your vent mechanism is. I bought one of these from Coles for $2 a while back as a temporary stop gap and it perfectly held up iPhone X without problem.

    • +1

Definitely depends on the vent and what’s below it. I set it up so the push tab is on the bottom and put it on the button horizontal bottom vent. Ahh I’m too tired to explain it properly. Sorry.

    • I personally hate vent mounted phone holders. They have always been loose for me in both of my cars and I hate the fact it blocks all the airflow from the aircon.

  • +3

I dont need a car for my work, so I have no idea but do modern cars really not have a dedicated place to put your phone yet?

    • How about your general every other day car? You can own a car regardless of your job

      • True that but I get coles delivery and live 2 mins walk from the train station; a car is just a waste of money for me

  • Was reading where it's not good to mount your phone in front of an aircon vent. The cold temperature it gets exposed to promotes condensation inside the casing when you move the phone to a warmer place

    • +3

      Close the vent first then?

      • That's hard when you have vents that you need to close to block the air.

    • +1

The cold temperature it gets exposed to promotes condensation inside the casing when you move the phone to a warmer place

That's not really an issue if your phone is waterproof.

Hot air is worse because the constant heat is bad for the battery plus it can cause the phone to overheat

    • Can totally see you chime in on the vaccine/no vaccine argument

    • +1

The phone automatically shutdown with temperature warning message when it is mounted to the window. No heat problem when it's mounted in front of an aircon vent.

  • Any deals for the original (downgraded) edition?

  • +2

have bought both new (this one) and old. The new one is rubbish IMO and barely functions. Don't vote for this waste of manufacturing

  • Two for $6 AU total. Thanks. Even better if I get my $2 bonus ShopBack.

  • +1

These are pretty bad then again they didn't fit my Note 9 with the case on so I found it useless.

  • +1

These are the more sturdy upgraded version of the phone holder that clamp onto your car's air vents

    I have found the opposite.

The clips that hold onto the vents don't close properly so it falls off the vent.

I have found that ones that push onto the vent are better.

    • @Clear in other threads, but there aren't alternate suggestions here, which is why I added one.

I bought many products from AliExpress. Apart from clothes, the rest are just low quality.

    • +1

You get what you pay for. I've spent probably over a grand on Ali and have nothing bad to say about it.

    • +1

Clothes have probably been the worst thing I have purchased from AliExpress

  • Any that go in a cupholder?

  • +1

There is a reason this is so cheap, it’s a piece of junk.
You get what you pay for, I would recommend QUADLOCKCASE at any cost, best quality going around and fantastic customer service and support.

    • -1

      much better.

  • Can someone please link to the original/good one? I can't seem to find it. Thank you.

  • This design is overly simple, the vents drop from the weight of the phone and it's no good.

You need to add the bracing arms at the bottom for stability, similar to the Cygnett Universal Vent Car Mount.

  • I got the updated version start of the year and it was hard to clip and unclip on my iPhone 6S plus . On a 5" phone (or 5.5" edgeless) phone it be ok, but anything wider is annoying. Then there's the sagging problem because of the weight of the phone and not enough support from the holder.

I got one of those Baseus Gravity Car Phone Holder instead that works much better, although it cost a bit more ($9.98 shipped)

  • Ordered one but I don't need it. I just want something to arrive in the Post it's been days since my last package. :)
