  • My biggest concern is, do I spend $7 on postage or drive 10kms for pick up? Haha

    • +4

      Drive 10kms

    • +4

Drive, at 66c/km (ATO rate), it equates to $6.60, saving you 40c.

      • +29

You forgot the return trip. Losing $3.20

        • +2

          Only on OzBargain :)

        • +19

I factored in drinking them in the carpark with a walk back

      • Does it really cost that much to drive around all things considered? That is way higher than I thought it would be.

        • +7

Fuel not so much, ATO rate factors maintenance, tyres etc too.

          • @mattman: It would differ between cars too, the ATO rate is just an indicator. Would be interesting to see a calculator for this.

"Just in time for the WARMER weather"

  • Yes what warmer weather?

    • Presumably packaged for the summer just past and didn't sell all that well, hence why it's on clearance.

For good reason too, might I add.

  • +2

    Thanks OP got 2

    • Well I laughed a little :D

    • +6

Drink scrumpy and tell yourself that, lol

      • +4

Exactly. Kopparberg isn't a great cider but it's like saying beer is the P plate of alcohol because Great Northern is a thing.

        • I actually love this stuff on a summers day. I had a great Easter Sunday this year drinking this at The Underbelly in Southbank (London)

          • @[Deactivated]: That's fine. Just know that it's about half a step above Little Fat Lamb on the "cider" scale.

People love it for the same reason they love soft drinks; because it's sickly sweet.

            • @Pantagonist: Never seen Fat Lamb codes tbh, where's this scale you speak of? :P If we're talking sickly sweet I'd have to place Somersby at the top of the list from what I've had, that stuff kills me. I have to add a dash of beer to get it down.

Bulmers and Magners are my go to ciders but I found this really nice for a change.

              • @[Deactivated]:

where's this scale you speak of?

It's a scale that goes from "named a cider for marketing purposes even though it's basically made with fruit juice / concentrate from China and tastes like sugar water" through to "actually a cider because it's made with real apples".

I would assume Bulmers and Magners fit in closer to the "actually a cider" end but I don't know how they're made. Those ciders aren't really my style anyway. I prefer my scrumpy as dry as it can possibly get while still retaining some apple freshness / crispness.

                • @Pantagonist: You know you don't get real scrumpy here right? My dad was from where it was born, he took me to some little pubs in Somerset when I was old enough to drink and let me sample it. That stuff goes down like Apple juice and then when you hit fresh air on the way out your legs buckle ;)

And FYI there is actually an apple (only) Kopparberg that isn't a 'sparkly fruit juice' but I'm not averse to Elderflower and Lime tbh.

                  • @[Deactivated]:

You know you don't get real scrumpy here right?

There's the traditional definition of scrumpy which was "rough" cider made from unselected apples. I'm pretty sure the west of England don't have a trademark on the term in the same way as Champagne from that region in France.

Nowadays the term "scrumpy" is typically used to define cider that is made in small batches and more in line with traditional methods. In my experience it's generally drier and higher in alcohol than your average mass produced cider.

Sweden isn't exactly known for its apple production and it's actually hard to find any evidence that cider makers from there use real apples in the fermentation process. I wouldn't count on Kopparberg Apple being any less artificial than the rest of their range.

I'm sure if your old man took you back to Somerset and you tried to claim a drink fermented using Elderflower & Lime was a cider you'd be promptly told otherwise.

                    • @Pantagonist: Maybe ask Google 'where is scrumpy made'

                      • @[Deactivated]: First link is a Wikipedia article. If you read beyond the first paragraph in that you'll see what I've written about the modern use of the term "scrumpy" is there almost verbatim per my description.

Then there are a bunch of links to other scrumpy cider producers from all over the world.

                        Your point?

                        • @Pantagonist: Actually I noticed that you had copied it verbatim, my point is don't be a cider snob to those who were brought up drinking the real stuff mate.

                          • @[Deactivated]: All I can say is that between your first sip of handmade Somerset scrumpy and your love of Kopparberg Elderflower & Lime, you somehow lost your ability to discern a good cider from something that isn't a cider.

It's fine to like Kopparberg and Rekorderling, but if you cared about respecting the craft of cider making you wouldn't call them ciders.

As I said, your test is to bring a bottle of Swedish cider to a producer in the west of England and claim that it deserves to be labelled a cider. Let me know how you go.

    • +2

i thought it was PASSION POP the "P" Plate

      • +1

        Or the L.

        • L is for LEXIA!!

          Fruity Lexia aka Goon bag

  • Anyone know what's the expiry of the bottles?

    • Just ring the store which cannot find the expired date.

    • It's all artificial, should last ages

  • +1

Thanks OP! Picking one up on my way home from work

    • +1

Can confirm the free glass is surprisingly thick, heavy and good quality. Great deal!

  • Has anyone tried this cider? Is it any good?

    • +1

It's the best cider I've tried IMO – I even like it more than Rekorderlig

      • +2

        Agreed.

      • +9

Rekorderling is not cider. It’s just fizzy juice with alcohol.

        • Lol fair enough – what cider do you prefer?

          • +1

@itsfree: I actually make my own. Cheaper. Super easy and I get to experiment with flavours. BUT have a look at Henry of Harcourts or visit your local bottle shop and check out some of the small brew stuff. Look for fresh press and go from there.

      • i'll give it a go

    • +3

Definitely on the sweet side. A great drink for people who don't usually like alcohol, and a passable one for those who do.

      • +3

        https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.news.com.au/lifestyle/food/…

Sweet because it is questionable as to what it is actually made from. A lot of these ciders are made from syrups and added flavouring and all other types of junk. due to marketing they charge a premium. That is an old article but the good thing about these big corporates is that it gets people into cider and perhaps looking for product which isn’t garbage.

Before I learned about fermentation etc and got a decent understanding of the industry I had no idea myself and thought the above stuff was actually a quality product.

        • +1

Very interesting article – I've learnt something tonight!

          • +2

@itsfree: Great! Now go out and make your own cider!!! Should probably start a forum post on home brewing in general…I’m no expert as still learning but I’m sure there are far more educated members than me on here.

    • It's… drinkable.

It's probably closer to a cider-flavoured RTD than proper cider.

  • +2

    No credit to pricehipster?

  • Thanks, bought one.

  • Good deal OP checked locally( no stock ) will place in a larger order :)

  • No stores near me have stock :-( I'm also going to Japan next week so can't get it delivered.

Current offer’s for beer 6 packs for members many great offerings cheaper than slabs pro rata :)

  • +4

Thanks OP, just picked one up. Can confirm mine was short dated (9/6/19) and hence why it was discounted. The clerk didn't understand why sales had started to flow in lol and had to explain to him why.

  • +1

    Grabbed 2 from Burwood NSW

  • IS there an easy way to find out which store has stock or do you need to add to your cart in every store?

  • Wooloongabba in Brisbane is showing stock.

  • 10kms away from me (Gladesville NSW).

Edit: out of stock - they called me to make a refund

  • Out of stock at my local…. excitement gone

  • Looks like it's sold out in VIC

  • +1

My local store who I purchased from jist rang me and said they've actually sold out 2 hours ago. He said I had to come in for a refund. I asked if he could do it electronically but said he couldn't. I also received an email 5 minutes before he called saying the orders ready to collect.
    Anyone else have dramas?

    • I'd call customer service and get them to refund it that way, saves a trip to the store.

    • +1

I got a missed call from Dan Murphys too, assume it’s the same story :(

Update: Just checked online and order cancelled

    • +4

He said I had to come in for a refund.

Just call back and tell him you're 15, so therefore can't drive to the store for a refund.

      • Lol

    • Shouldnt be a reason why you had to go in store for a refund if your whole order was not fufillable. rep must be new or not know what hes doin
      Hope this was sorted out
if not just give our contact centre a ring

      • +1

I phoned late yesterday and someone from the phone support called the store. They ended up informing me that there was 2 at the store put aside for me. I haven't had time to pick them up yet but pretty happy in the end.
