Chance of Oculus Rift CV1 on sale during Amazon Prime Day?

Hello, I'm looking for some guidance from someone with experience in Amazon prime day and maybe VR deals.

Basically wanting to get insight on if the rift cv1 could be for sale again during prime day?
They were for sale around $525 at Xmas, but since oculus stopped selling they are on Amazon for over $1000. I'm thinking maybe they have a few in stock and might sell them on prime day.

I've been wanting to get a VR headset for almost a year now. Originally waiting for Rift price to come down, then at Xmas it was cheap but talks of a new rift (now rift s) and a valve headset coming out. By the time all the info came out, it looks like valve would be best, but as valves headset isn't available in Aus I was thinking of grabbing a used ~$300 rift cv1 until the index gets released.
The rift s ($650) doesn't look great and would rather save some $$ towards a valve when it comes here.

Instead of this, why not get a Quest? A beta release VRidge has just been released to play PC VR games from Steam. Best of both worlds.

    • From what I can find in articles, this is still pretty buggy, and I wouldn't be too hopeful about it improving much in the future.

The Quest itself however is still pretty awesome, Robo Recall on it was looking pretty awesome

    • This is more of a proof of concept. There are still considerable issues with latency and artifacting. If you're mostly going to play Quest native games most of the time though, it's definitely a nice way to dip your toes in PCVR games, but if you'll mostly play PCVR games and are expecting it to be as good as a Rift S/CV1/Vive/PCVR headset, it might be disapointing.

The bugs can definitely be ironed out, but without a native HDMI/display port input into the Quest, it'll be a while before we get around the technical limitations

  • When is Amazon day?

    • It was mid July last year so I assume it will be around that time again this year.

    1. The Rift CV1 is discontinued and Oculus and retailers like Amazon will only be selling the Rift S going forwards. The Rift S might get sales going forwards, but the only CV1's available from now are second hand.

    2. Take in mind that the Index is $999 USD, so roughly $1455 AUD.

    3. Whilst the Rift S has a few tradeoffs, provided your interpupillary distance (the distance between your pupils) is close enough to the average 64mm +/- 3mm, the Rift S is still a fantastic PCVR headset for those new to VR and it definitely offers a higher visual fidelity over the CV1 with much less sensor setup hassles.
