I’m looking to do a basic Wordpress site for a friend’s consultancy business. Looking for advice on whether to go with Hostgator or Siteground, or any others?
Wordpress Hosting - Siteground or Hostgator?
Comments
Had good experiences with both VentraIP & Zuver (is a relative comment as nearly all shared hosting is varying degrees of bad…)
As far as I can tell they both use exactly same data centre so if you don’t want to pay extra for phone support, backups, and don’t need a dedicated IP, Zuver can work out really cheap. That said VentraIP commonly have new signup specials (today its 40% off) that bring their prices for the first year down to, or cheaper than Zuver
I tend to agree there's plenty of great web hosting providers here in Australia. ShortyX you should consider using one.
Hey, I'd suggest Wix or Squarespace instead - its easier to manage in the longer run and prices overall tend to be commensurate when you consider management, hosting, templates, etc
Haven't used Hostgator before, but did use Siteground for a client recently and have been happy with them so far.
Zuver worked really well last time I used it too! Could be a good option for Australian hosting.Nothing speaks more rookie than wordpress, does your friend want to attract clients or repel them. Try Laravel, heaps of video lessons to guide you at https://laracasts.com/

Perhaps a web developer might be put off, the rest of the browsing public won’t know and don’t care.
While I get what your saying – Wordpress’ popularity, homogenised themes, and “developers” to deploy them means that sites can all blur into one.
But there is nothing about using Wordpress as a CMS that places any restrictions what the frontend will look like.
For a “basic site” that will be self hosted it remains hard to recommend anything but Wordpress.
Visitors will be mostly from Australia? VentraIP and Zuver are quite popular here as they are Australia based hosting companies (note: VentraIP owns Zuver).
