Need someone to help identify ‘pop’ sound is in Original recording source (FLAC / ALAC audio files).

Hi if anyone who owns & has ripped the Bowers & Wilkins Demo CD “Very New Audiophile Recordings” to Lossless (or legitimate purchased digital lossless download) could help me identify if the sounds in 2 tracks (Allan Taylor - Colour To The Moon, & Chris Jones - Long After Your Gone) are from the original recording, it would be much appreciated.

When listening on my system with the DAC’s PCM filter set to the one with the highest point before roll-off.
I can hear slight high frequency ‘pop’ or ‘crackle’ in parts of both song towards the beginning of both tracks (at the very beginning for “Colour To The Moon”).
If someone who has ripped the CD themselves to lossless digital file (or digital download) could confirm that these sounds are just part of the recording that would be of great help.
All other files play without any of these pop’s or crack’s.
I have had one other file which has 1 single pop which I was able to confirm is in the original recording (grand piano piece with the mic being clipped).
I also have troubleshooted the equipment and it is definitely in the files.

For the 2 tracks I am writing about, I am worried that it is bad bits within the file itself.
The CD is gone, so hopefully another owner of the CD here (or digital download) can help with confirmation.

As a fellow audiophile, the word is 'troubleshot'.

    • Thanks. Although I am quite new to Lossless digital audio (files / ripping etc), I would prefer the term ‘Audio evangelist’ which is a stage I am yet to reach (and hopefully can live without).
The term ‘Audiophile’ seems like it was born on the internet by youngsters, I see it thrown around everywhere with very little weight.

I am happy with just proper placement in a furnished room.
I can do without room-correction, room-treatment and upgrading / changing equipment often.

  • i reckon its ghosts

Very New Audiophile Recordings was released on vinyl too according to discogs. if this lossless rip is a vinyl rip the pop could be just be the needle hitting a bit of dust.

    • Yes thanks for your comment. I approve of your comment.

  • better way to test would be to play the same files back on any other setup you have access to.

if the files are damaged (which isn't likely, but possible if you didn't rip the CD with software like EAC) you're likely to hear it even on an iPod with earbuds. If you don't, the crackling is probably down to some peculiarity in your setup. It can happen in passages with pretty extreme sibilance which is what you've got at the start of both of those tracks.

    • Hi yes I have narrowed it down to the files, it’s there on the DAP, it’s there on the file on the PC.
It is less noticeable with earbuds (due to their frequency response) but still there.
