  • How much is the same bundle but with 3 phase power ? I assume it is just the inverter that would need to be compatible.

    • +3

What 3 phase power for? Honest question

      • +2

        In simplistic terms :
Power lines outside your street are usually 3 phase (3 lines).
1 Phase power means your house just 'hooks on' to one of those lines.

3 phase is usually for bigger power needs. EG. all electric house with induction hotplate, electric hotwater, electric infloor heaters, electric aircon etc. You can distribute the power over three phases (safer within the home). So your 3 phse house would have a separate connection to each of the 3 power lines outside that house. Also useful if you have a huge solar power system = you can export more solar power to the grid.

        • Thanks. Its new to me.

    • For a system this size/quality you shouldn't need to go a three phase inverter.

Only need 3 phase if you're going over your areas distributors per phase limit (most at 5 to 10kw max for single phase)

Your electricity meter will calculate usage across all three regardless of which is importing or exporting power.

    • In the most part, going 3 phase is better, if you have a 3 phase connection. We dont connect as many single phase inverters to 3 phase connections these days. A lot depends on what you have in mind for your solar down the track. If you intend connecting batteries or not. It’s a lot to write but thankfully Ron Brakels from Solarquotes lays out your options well here.

      • Actually it was penned by Finn Peacock. Sorry Finn!

  • For a 3phase add $600

    • Ok and could you list the model of the three phase inverter , thanks.
Is the package price negotiable ?
What payment methods do you accept ?
      Cheers.

      • The inverter is the Growatt 3 phase 5000TL3-S
That would be the price we can do it for. $3,597 inc

Anyone know the company? Is this a bargain? (Honest question, haven't done the solar analysis yet)

    • +2

Is this a bargain? (Honest question, haven't done the solar analysis yet)

depends, are you buying solar for the quickest ROI, hope to break even and then anything on top of that is a bonus
or are you buying solar for a system with a plan that it will last 10-20+years without issue

if its the first one, maybe…if you're lucky
(and likely dont mind a lower quality of install.. 2 'review's on solarequotes, abn shows solar based company name started feb 2019 and previously registered as businesses unrelated to solar, so a 10 year warranty on install might not mean much to a company 4 mths old)

if its the later, then no, none of that equipment should be on your short list of quality components

    • +4

This system is a very good lower priced kit. Why those components are selected:

      Panels

The panels have been on the market for a while, so we know they are good. Jinko is one of our preferred sources as they are in every state of Australia, so access to warranty, plus the probability that they may still be in business in ten years is higher than most. These panels until recently were the "premium" panels in many suppliers range. LG, SunPower, etc are considered "optimum". If you have an account with CHOICE you can log in and see their evaluation.

      Inverter

Growatt (Ginlong) have been in Australia for quite a while, see my blog for details on the firm and this inverter. There is also a datasheet on the deal page.

      https://www.solarpowerpanels.net.au/growatts-min-series-inve…

One of the main criteria for selection of any inverter for us is whether the company is in Australia, and can provide local service. We always offer any inverter whether it has it or not as standard - with a 10 year factory warranty.

All our installers are CEC accredited and do a fantastic job. If you are interested and would feel more comfortable , there's no problem to put you in touch with existing customers. We keep in touch with them especially the first few months to check off their power bill, to make sure its all working correctly.

Not everyone wants to or has the extra money for a system with a better pedigree. We know that, so this is a good option for them. We would always recommend a Fronius inverter over anything. Panels, yes SunPower LG top end of town, but again, not everyone wants to spend that money. Its not a good idea to over capitalise either, if you don't plan to stay in the home for at least 5 years. You will be giving the value to the new owner without perhaps saving any real money yourself. So, to try and strike a balance between cost, pay back period, probability of 1) having an issue, 2) getting support plays heavily in selecting a kit that will suit your pocket and circumstances.

BTW Have been in solar since 2008 was a sole trader until sept 27, 2018. Formed company but the execution of the transfer of the business name only happened in Feb. So have been around a lot longer than 4 months! :)

    any package with battery?

    • We could make a package but would need to cost according to your situation.

Our PM is installing solar panels himself?

    • +2

he doesn't need to, his mates give him clean coal energy for free, no need to worry about cloudy day or night

  • Is there any point in considering a new solar system if you already have an old one on the house? We bought a property with solar, but it's pretty small and we miss out on any rebates etc. because it was there when place was purchased.

  • +1

Hey Guys: Try to find Tier 1 solar panel for that price

6.6 kW system with Tier 1 Canadian 330W Panels with Austrian made Fronius 5 kW 1 phase Inverter - Good spec!

    • +2

      Tier 1

has no reflection on the quality of said panels

Tier ranking (where 1 is the ‘best’ and 3 is the ‘worst’) is based on the “bankability” of a solar panel brand (aka how financially stable a manufacturer is), not its quality.

      this provides a decent guide
if the brands on the page on the left, its 'bare minimum' quality gear (and thats putting it generously for some), in the middle, its not bad, on the right, is the stuff you'd expect to last the 20 years you should be aiming for out of a solar system

      https://www.solarquotes.com.au/solar-brands-trust.html

and i'd definitely be up-specing to something like a fronius inverter as a minimum on any install… the inverter does the work and the majority of the time its the inverter that dies prematurely in a 'budget' system

    • Tier's only refers to how many panels were sold in a recent period, it doesn't indicate the quality of the panel, just a suggestion on what company could possibly be around in 24 years to honour a 25 year warranty.

  • Would I be able to send/sell unused electricity to grid/distributor AGL/Origin? I believe the question is whether this is on-grid or off-grid system? Thanks

    • This is on grid
Though you'd want to do more research in the overall lifespan Roi of systems like this.

    • Yes, you would be able to "Feed-In" if there is any power left over that you don't use in the home. The amount you get depends on what deal you negotiate with AGL / Origin.

This is a "Grid-Tie" system. ON GRID

  • Do you have certegy/Ezipay option available? How much would this be for Jinko Panel + Fronius inverter?

    • We dont use or recommend Certegy or any of those. We suggest that you can get a quote from Rate%Setter.

If you would like to get a firm price please send me a message through our contact page. https://www.solarpowerpanels.net.au/contact/

  • How much without assigning REC certificates?

    • Sorry, we dont do that anymore, we used to in the old days, but now it all goes through STC trader like "Formbay". Its a lot less paperwork and hassle. If we do a deal, you will be able to see what the STC component is on the invoice. It gets locked in so we (both parties) dont have worry about price movements.

  • How good are Growatt Inverter for warranty?
    My inverter is causing trouble

    • Growatt are pretty good. Seriously, we wouldnt sell them if they were not.Its too much drama. What brand/model is your inverter?

      • It is a 5 kW inverter, installed by Tru Value Solar (closed to business a German company)4 years ago.
It keeps beeping and indicates "low isolation". Internet search claimed earth leaking. The technician couldn't find problem with panels. Sometimes turn off and on helps, sometimes nothing happens.
I was advised the inverter needs to be exchanged.
What happens next is unknown at this point

        • Are you in Brisbane?

  • Do you install south of the tweed? Or do you rely on Qld Go t rebates for that price?

  • no,sorry we only do QLD, and no dont rely, QLD govt rebates, just federal STC's

  • I signed the same components just 2 weeks before in another company at $3,600 (Jinko 275*21 + Growatt inverter on 2-storey tile roof), and the inverter should be single-phase for home use.
The warranties listed are the same.

    Anyway,reckon it's a good deal.

    • Yep. Any reason you're not getting the 24x panels? Not enough room?

      • You got it

        • Should have gone higher capacity panels..anything under 300w is older/lower tech these days.

          • @SBOB: Quite right so I changed to 330 today, luckily installlation time coulde be delayed, but the number may vary depending on the panel size.
And the final price goes to $3850, generally acceptable.

    • @poachpork The capacity is good BUT just because you go over 300 watts doesn’t mean that you will be getting higher tech. In general, you need to specify mono PERC if you want the higher capacity AND tech.

As it is a tight roof you might be right about the number of panels they can get on. These 330's are likely to be 72 cell or 'tall' poly panels (nearly 2 mts). If they are, then in effect, they’re a stretched out version of a 60 cell poly panel. So they may not fit exactly or how you want them. They are likely to be the same efficiency level as the smaller panel too, just bigger.

If they need to reduce the number of panels, then your system size may reduce too, down to a level that you may not be happy with. I would ask them to go over it again to be sure. It’s better to actually measure up. As mentioned the panels will likely be at this price point, poly's which is OK, but if you want the better mono PERC tech, you will likely need to spend a few dollars more.

21x 330 is 6.930kW that’s over the 6.65kW threshold for a single phase without getting approval to go bigger. So it will be 20x 330 giving you 6.60kW. If they can’t get the 20 and only 19 then you system will be 6.270kW.

I would suggest that you ask them to give you standard 60 cell 315’s Monos (PERCs) –

If you can get 21 up there – 6.615kW

If you only can get 20 – 6.30kW

If you only can get 19 – 5.985kW

      Even if you use standard size 60 cell 300 monos could be better. 21x 300 - 6.30kW, 20x 300 - 6kW

Get my drift? Its essential to know just how much room you have got and map out the roof and use the right sized panel to get as close to the maximum you are allowed…

If you like, get in touch and I'll give a second opinion.

      • 21x 330 is 6.930kW that’s over the 6.65kW threshold for a single phase without getting approval to go bigger.

        what are you talking about…???
the number/capacity of panels is completely irrelevant to a distributors per phase solar maximum..
its the inverter thats going to determine the maximum power generation, not the panels

the issue with going over the 6.6kw threshold is that technically his system becomes ineligible for STC's and therefore either dodgily claimed or massively more expensive due to this
exceeding the 133% oversizing of the inverters rated power is the allowable STC rebate limit, the distributor couldn't give two hoots how many panels you have on the DC side of the inverter.

You could have 7.5kw on a 5kw fronius for instance (as long as you can keep the per string voltage to under 600V DC) and you'd still only be generating 5kw and still within any distributors single phase limit in australia (some are 10kw)
You'd be ineligible for STC rebates, but at no point in this process would you need 'approval'
        :/

        • +1

          "what are you talking about…???"

          Not what you’re talking about.
          Here’s how it works.
You overlooked the zero export limitation requirement.
          That’s what I’m talking about.
Its mandatory, and it’s an approval.
You do need ‘approval’ from Energex before you proceed to install.
This matter has zero to do with “STC’s” or compliance in that regard. Another matter.
          This is an Energex requirement.
          Google it.

  • Do you install on asbestos roofs?

    • No we cant, very sorry Tony.

      • I have 24m2 of steel roof, is that enough space? its facing north

  • So how long as your business been operating I can't find any reviews on solar quotes or anything about your name on line.
I've heard a lot of bad stories about businesses opening up ripping off customers and suppliers. Then just disappearing and if there's any issues, will you be there in 6 months time if anything goes wrong?

See my response above to DocC - that goes into the offer and why we offer these particular products.

Been in solar since 2008, sole trader for a few years, formed company 27/9/2018.

ECOMZ PTY LTD (ABN 41 629 060 546) trading as Solar Power Panels. I am the director, Scott McNair.

We havent done much in the way of web or social media and only started to put more effort into that recently.

We dont buy sales leads from anyone including solarquotes, just our own advertising and referrals. So it would be easy to miss us as we are not in anyone's orbit. Do

our own thing. The products that we offer are locally supported by the manufacturers, so that we have a good chance of them being around if we need warranty. That's

one of the most important requirements when choosing solar, that the company actually be here and not go through a third-party. All our installers are CEC accredited and do a

fantastic job. If you are interested and would feel more comfortable , there's no problem to put you in touch with existing customers. We keep in touch with them especially

the first few months to check off their power bill, to make sure its all working correctly.

    Scott
