<$200 Luggage

Hi,
I'm looking for some luggage for a NZ trip and perhaps one to Europe.
I'd like it to last, and have wheels.

No need for this kind of dirty talk. Reported.

    • Whatever's more durable.

Durex. Seem to be very reliable.

  • I am looking at getting some new luggage for my upcoming trip (got my handle broken on my last flight).

Size wise not sure what there is but I guess just the standard large bag. We are off for 6 weeks so need to fit a fair bit in it.

Soft/hard: not sure what the best option here is. Thought hard is easier to break? I do like the flyscreenish dividers you get in hard cases though.

    • Buy a new handle from aliexpress <$10 delivered

      https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?catId=152409&initiative…

      • Valid option, but I can't seem to find how they have attached it previously to my bag. Also leaving in 24 days, not sure Ali could get it to me in time.

        • usually you can open the inner lining of the luggage and the handle is bolted through the case and a plate.

if no inner zip then cutting knife and then repair cut with duct tape.

          but depends on the suitcase.

I recently bought the Antler Juno II 68cm as its the top rated luggage on Choice. It's pretty good and so far no complaints. 68cm one seems ample for one person. The 80cm is pretty big and probably overkill unless you're going skiing or something and need epic storage.

If you shop around you can find much better prices than some of the big retailers. 68cm is around $165 and 80cm is about $180. Heaps of colour choices too.

  • Can anyone comment on hard vs soft for durability? I generally keep anything breakable in my carry on so not so worried about protecting checked luggage.

I have an IT Luggage hard case set that has been on over 100 flights now with no damage apart from scuff marks. My soft cases before that got holes ripped in them easily. Soft cases also run the risk of getting wet inside if they are offloaded when it is raining.

    • My soft cases are fine, lasted 10 years worth of travel now.
Bigger consideration is that 99% of hard cases have two compartments. They aren't built to have one big compartment. Therefore my husband finds it a pain to pack. Whereas for my soft case, I have a big hole with a lid that holds flat things. So keep that in mind.
PS if you're in Melbourne there's a samsonite factory sale on the weekend (last weekend I think of May)
