Ready for Myer Sale Closing down Their Electronic Department

Given there is no one in most myer stores to serve you - wonder which department is next.

Beggars belief that Myer think people will comeback and buy if they have no staff to serve you.

Went to Erina store yesterday and NO one was in the bedding department. Doh when Mr Brookes and stooges look at their sales figures, then they find no sales in bedding, then they conclude, there is no business for them.

Reminds me of the story of the highway eats owner who thought there was a recession coming, so saved money by turning off the lights in preparation, and you know he was right…..

  • It's probably a smart move simply because it's easy to price compare tvs whilst fashion products are not easily comparable. There isn't much markup on TVs whilst the markup on clothes especially brand name products is astronomical. It's the overpriced HDMI cables and extended warranties that make them money.

the electric department at myer melbourne went to shit along time ago, i doubt there are others any better

Once upon a time there was reason to shop at Myers electric section…. good days.

  • actually i still love myer, got many gift cards and i can get better price by haggling with their staff , get point. it is a shame if they really close down their electronic department.

  • There still is good reason to buy electronics there if you play it right, actually. Last year Myer Castle Hill (NSW) gave me the best price on an extremely popular Sony LCD TV, and I didn't have to mess around with HDMI cables or any of that nonsense. A shame to lose them really, one less retailer to speak to when generating a bidding war.

    • yeah, i just tell them got cheaper price from other retailer, they don't even call their competitor to verify the price and directly beat the price. love it

      • The last few times I did this in both electronics and in perfume they said the competitor price was below their cost and wouldn't match.

If that was true then they should get back to their suppliers for a better deal or buy from the other retailer!

        Total scam.

  • But on the other hand - I went into Dick Smiths the other week and was after those Funway into Electronic Kits (probably showing my age here!) that they used to stock and the guy said that TV's and bigger items have more of a turnover than things that are small and nobody wants. Gone are the days of people actually learning how to construct things :(

  • since myer owns target and kmart you can still buy TVs there… just not any good ones…

Myer is no longer part of the Coles group. Kmart and target are owned by wesfarmers

      • correct, remember myer have their own IPO, i think around 1-2 years ago. westfarmer bought coles, kmart and target business from myer group before.
