Are these any good first cars? If I purchase one, I plan to find one around 150,000km and in good condition.
I don't know much about cars either.

Thanks, preferably a safe car that is fairly recent with cruise control. something that has a nice look compared to the lancer and isn't overly huge, id plan to install a carplay headunit aswell
You looking at sedan type cars or would a hatchback fill that void in your life?
annnnnnd "budget". We can all suggest a car, but this is the most important factor. There is no sense saying Audi S4 Quattro if your budget is $4,000.
sorry haha, max probably $8,000 sedan or either hatchback works
I’ve got a 2008 VR Lancer… I’m pretty sure they’re the same build as the 2009-12 models. It’s on about 111K now and never had any reliability issues. Servicing is also pretty cheap.
The only issue I have is with the fuel economy. The car also beeps aggressively at you if you dont put your seatbelt after 1 min of ignition but I’m told this is standard for a lot of japanese cars. Mitsi also had a recall of the timing belt for lancers so make sure thats done

My 2008 VRX Lancer is on 460,000kms and rising without any major issues (other than general engine and running gear wear obviously).
Fuel economy is nothing to write home about but it isn't awful either.
As npc said there is a lot of road noise (especially with the VRX's stiffer suspension and larger wheel size) but it's not horrible.
My Lancer does have a pretty significant oil leak (last 20,000kms) but I don't think I can complain when it has done over 460,000kms and will probably die soon.
My daily commute is almost 250kms (to and from work) if you're wondering how I got so many kms.
Pretty bulletproof old tech car.
Pretty cheap because they are ugly and no one wants them.
In my opinion they are a good buy.
haha i love the look of them
Refinement and noise insulation are pretty non-existent in these cars. Other than that they seem to be quite reliable and cheap to maintain.
I have been driving 2010MY for 10 years, I like the look on them, interior is bit old school.
No issues mechanically with regular service. Had few minor recalls over the time. No other issues.
Fix the tires noise by putting better quality tires.
Not bad as a first car. Pretty bland and reliable. Wouldn’t pay too much for it though. But for a 2012 model, shouldn’t be to hard to find one with under 150,000km. Older than that, you might be hard pressed.
The better thing to do would be to tell the raving masses here what you seek in a car and what your budget is, then let the hoards scrap over what they think is best value for money and reliability. (Then promptly ignore all the advice and buy what you want…)
