  • Well, up until Trump puts them on the trade sanctions list, next to Huawei….

Aliexpress says it's usb-c in one location, micro-usb in two others. Every other site I've seen (including Umidigi's own) says micro-usb. Sad to say, that's probably the one thing that's keeping my from buying it (I'm tired of having micro-usb, usb-c, and lightning cables…I'll deal with two max).

I bought the Umidigi One for my son, lot of the specs are similar, but do note I'm not speaking about the A5 Pro specifically. It's a true dual 4G phone (not 4G for one sim and 3G for the other). Lot of bands which actually work (band 28A and 28B, so I'm guessing the answer to B28 is an emphatic "Hell yeah!"). Face unlock works really well (too well?). Fingerprint scanner is eh, but the One has it on the side and I see the A5 Pro has it on the rear, so I'd guess it'd work a bit better. The One has a dual camera setup, but many state that only one is actually functional (fake bokeh effect); don't buy Umidigi for the camera(s). Others state that the camera is better with Open Camera; stock is good enough for my 12yr old, so I haven't bothered. Came with a free crappy case…but free is free and it does look pretty nice. Don't get the Twilight color expecting the ultra cool color-changing effect; it's rather plain (I'd go with black unless twilight was cheaper). Not a big deal, case hides it anyway. Comes with a plastic screen protector, careful peeling off the temp sticker because the protector likes to come off too.

From a distance it certainly looks like an expensive phone. In the hand, you can tell it's no iPhone or similar flagship quality phone, but it does the job well enough.

I should note that reviews are mixed. Some people absolutely love it, some complain that it just up and stopped working, and other myriad problems. This is a cheap disposable phone. I think it's worth the gamble at this price. If the first is a dud get a second, you're still ahead of everyone paying $500-$1500 for a flagship (especially if you want a nearly notchless phone with dual 4G sims AND a micro-sd slot). And if you want something a bit retro with headphone jack and (gasp!) micro-usb…it'll be hard to beat this deal.

    • Thanks, I'll give it a go.

  • there is also a $6 off vendor coupon so price is US$89.37.

specs read well according to kimovil

band 28, headphone jack, dual sim, NO NFC

    • And 15% shopbback at the moment

    • Bought it with the $6 seller and $3 new user coupon.

I ordered one of these (with the 6usd coupon and also 15% ShopBack). Hopefully it's good!

    My main pros for purchasing:
    - great price compared to similar products
    - on paper the specs look good, including the camera (Sony sensor + wide angle lens, not too hopeful for the last one as a depth sensor because they have faked cameras before)
    - all the right frequency bands
    - big battery
    - looks great
    - umidigi are trying to break into Aus market so maybe a sign of better QC

    Main cons I see:
    - camera could be a disappointment.
    - ongoing support may not be there (also warranty in case it suddenly fails). This is my biggest concern.
    - the helio p23 isn't the best of processors, but im hoping it does the job.

    Let's see how we go!

    • Hi, did you get your phone yet? Any feedback?

Hey mate, nope not yet. It's a presale and they told me it would only ship 25th to 5th July sometime. A long wait!

"- umidigi are trying to break into Aus market so maybe a sign of better QC"
I doubt our market would mean much at all… the China and India markets have a consumer base measured in billions… their next place of interest would be europe. Our market would be a flea fart.
"- camera could be a disappointment."
Some expensive phones use the same Sony setup so it should be good for a $143 phone.
"- ongoing support may not be there (also warranty in case it suddenly fails). This is my biggest concern."
Support and warranty for most phones bought from online asian sellers fall into that category. That is why they are so cheap, no warranty, contrary to what their ads say. The quality is good and I have had more luck with them than the grossly overpriced phones sold here so treat it sensibly and it will be fine.
"- the helio p23 isn't the best of processors, but im hoping it does the job."
Perfect for the job. More important is ram and storage and the 4gb is very adequate, the 32gb is fine for apps and the micro sd slot allows for plenty of storage for photos and "tunes".

      • Agree with most points.

They are already selling on places like Amazon which is global (mostly) western export which is where I was going with the QC.

True that the camera sensor is used in phones such as the one plus 5t (I think) but I believe the phones with that sensor have had focussing problems. Also the wide angle sensor isn't specced as Sony or any brand. Will have to check it out ourselves on that one.

As for the Helio processor, I've never used a phone with one so not much experience in that field, so thanks for the insight!

        • Dont lose sight of the price.. :-)

@Cheeper: The main reason I pulled the trigger :) can't wait to see the phone!

            • @frogduck: Curious to see some real photo samples from this phone. All the reviews I can find are fake.

              • +1

@Cheeper: Yep, no real reviews yet because not released. I'll try remember to post back when I get it :)

                • @frogduck: Some pre release phones did hit the market but no one gave any decent feedback.

                  • +1

@Cheeper: Mine was just shipped! so I'll probably get it in a few weeks (not express shipping).

Recieved my A5 pro and I have to say I'm impressed for the price!

    First impressions:
    - seems like real stock android. I didn't see any bloatware (or its not obvious)
    - the ram and processor hold up well (eg. Chrome opens in under a second)
    - build quality feels great for the price and the phone itself looks way more premium than the cost.
    - screen looks pretty good - comparing to my P30 pro, sharpness is similar along with screen to bezel ratio (or notch in this case) - maybe not as bright though, but very readable.
    - camera app is ok, not perfect. I tested the normal and wide angle cameras - focus is a little slow, switching between the cameras takes 1-2 seconds, and the white balance is different on each, but for the price I can't complain. Of course this doesn't hold its own against my P30 pro, but Id say it's great for the price. If gcam would work on this, might improve the low light performance (ports mainly for snapdragon though).
    - adoptable storage using 128gb microsd seemed to work fine.
    - haven't gotten to test reception yet since it's not my main phone.

Can't think of any other points at the moment but feel free to ask. Time will tell if this phone lasts but so far so good!

Just want to contribute my thoughts here as well. I also received my A5 Pro Breathing Crystal this week.
I had very low expectation that come with these type of lower tier android phones, but after playing around with it for a few days id say its better than expected.

Background: I purchased this due to low price and features to be a placeholder until I purchase 2019/2020 iPhone. Coming from iPhone6 (running 4yrs strong), I havent had a need to upgrade my phone due to poor offerings in the last few years (all phones are virtually similar, nothing super innovative except all these camera and screen ratio debates (oneplus7 pro, S10, p30 pro)).

    Pros:
    - Tear drop screen is pretty awesome (1080p)
    - Build quality is surprisingly on par with iPhone6 (metal & glass)
    - CPU & GPU havent had any stuttering or slowdown unless with graphic intense games (Dota2 Underlords, PUBG) or unsupported (Fortnite Mobile).

    Cons:
    - Camera app is absolutely empty (photo, video, beauty, bokeh). Also agree with Frogduck that it is slow and laggy especially switching between main & ultrawide. Would be great if there was a GCAM port to add functionality and night sight.
    - Micro USB obviously not reversible so that is annoying (lighting or USBC are convenient but 1st world problems)
    - Speakers arent amazing but get pretty loud (tin related at max).

I have yet to test the camera outdoors with abundance of light from the sun nor call quality as I have yet to swap sim over till my 256gb Microsd card arrives cause 32gb is severely limited. Might update the post, maybe idk. Anyways leaving this here, time will definitely tell if this thing last.

    • Hello,

I'm thinking about getting this phone from the official eBay store (quicker delivery - allegedly).

I was wondering if you could upload any photos you took from this camera?

I was also hoping for some insight after using it for a month. How has the phone been? Any reason for someone not to buy it?

      Thank you @humanamolt
