  • I used peruhop for Peru and found them excellent.

    • we're actually going to use them as well.. any extra tour which is not good value?

Depending on what you want out of the salt flats we took the overnight bus from La Paz, booked a tour that morning in Uyuni with a company we knew about, and caught another overnight bus back to La Paz that night. It's really not worth staying there overnight, heard plenty of horror stories about the bad accom available on the salt flats/in town.

    • does the overnight bus to uyuni from la paz sellout as we are tight on schedule

No need to book The following unless you have super specific dates as there are hundreds of tour companies offering these tours:
    Salar De Uyuni 1day tour
    San Pedro De Atecama tours
    Santiago tours

      100% agreed.

san pedro just hire a bike to see things.

private taxis are super expensive. Star gazing tours are everywhere and price really ranges a lot. there was a super popular guy that booked out - think he was "frenchie". i used a relatively 'expensive' guy but he was great so no complaints. check reviews for quality of telescopes.

as for accommodation, guess it depends on what type of accommodation you want and ur price range and how flexible u are.

      • thanks for the tips/advice @spaceangelz and @cheapskateQueen
I'm thinking of booking the ff tours:
        Astronomical Tour
        El Tatio Geysers Tour
        Moon Valley Tour
Altiplanic Lagoons & Red Rocks Viewpoint

100% do the star gazing tour.

as for the other 3, instead of 3 day tours, maybe consider a 2 night 3 day trip that encompasses them all? bit more of an adventure?

if youve never seen a geyser, it's pretty cool but please be careful. rules dont apply in south america and they care not for your safety (comparative to nanny state Aus). I have a true horror story that I will not repeat, just don't think you can walk right up to one because the guide lets you!

  • Nazca flights pain in the butt when I tried to book locally, in Spanish.

I tried to get a specific time off them for the fights.

It appears that they won't fly unless they have enough customers queued up. So a booking on the spot may be a bad idea as you could spend the whole day waiting.

Booking ahead with a travel company that has already organised a particular flight ahead of time and had months to allocate passengers may be better.

Also apparently the traffic from lima to naszca is a pita. So although it may appear that a day trip is possible, if may not be.

    • We are passing Nazca on the way to Arequipa and thought we just do the viewing platform for Nazca lines. I read so many horrible stories about taking flight so still contemplating on it. is it really worth it?

      • Dunno. I never made it. :(

      • I stayed a night in Nazca, June 2018. Nice town to see some almost authentic Peruvian life. It has some nice restaurants. Felt pretty safe. Went for the flight in the morning, had to wait a bit (2 hours) because of fog. I did get a bit airsick but did not throw up; another passenger did throw up on my plane. The views are perfect and what you would expect but I would not class them as spectacular. The viewing from the platform is ordinary. I booked here https://www.findlocaltrips.com/nazca-lines-tour-flight-peru and flew with AERONASCA.

        • It seems I may need to pass on this one. Thanks for sharing your experience.

  • When I went, I booked everything local.

Much cheaper, you see who you're dealing with, and gives you more control of things change.

    Enjoy.

PS. Star gazing tour in San Pedro is one of the best things I've ever seen.
