Intentionally Being Retargetted for Deals on Social Media?

Dear OzBargain

I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this. Say for instance you're doing some googling on a new product, and you go to product pages and don't buy it, then on your socials e.g Facebook you see sponsored content for stores on the same product at a lower a much better price..

Has anyone managed to game the system by intentionally leaving crumbs online to be targeted by a campaign?

Sorry if this is confusing.

      I just got one for a vpn and an accounting package for offers that weren't open to me until I wasn't interested… hmmmm

    yeah it happens to everyone. i notice it multiple times a day. they even listen to u talk through your mic, comp or phone.

    I think this is google Adsense. I looked at a website in America for an American independent cinema (the one that lets you eat hot meals during the movie) and it had banner ads for an independent computer store around the corner from me, advertising the same headphones for sale that I had been Googling all week to consider buying. It's extremely creepy and I wish I could turn it all off, although the price on the headphones was pretty good even though I had already ordered them. That's my second biggest issue with these targeted ads, they only start to appear after I've already purchased the item or service or whatever, so its just ads for things I've already purchased and don't need two of.

      Yeah exactly, it is such a dumb system. I got ads for youth hostels in Iceland for months after I already visited there. Like, hello, I'm not going to go all the way back just to try out a hostel I already looked at and decided not to stay at…

        I can't remember which cinema it was. I try to find it again but it's not Alamo Drafthouse or Roadhouse Cinemas, I don't really remember any others. They could have updated their site since then too.
