Phone Case for Finger Stains/Sweat

Does glass screen protector decrease sensitivity? Should I get glass or thin plastic screen protector? I looked at eBay cheaper cases but there aren't any reviews, do they work/fit properly? Looking for cases for S10, really don't want to pay much for a case that can't be used on future phones, ideally something that doesn't collect sweat/dust (i.e. smooth slippery). Thanks.

No and always get glass if possible.

You can either spend 5 or 10 bucks on namebrand such as Spigen (or many others) which will have good fit or you can spend around that on a hundred or so cheap screen protectors and replace it every week which will probably fit almost as well.

  • In my experience it does decrease sensitivity, that's with a name brand, never get plastic they scratch easily and look like crap. Of course neither protectors or cases can be used on future phones, but people generally keep their phone for 2+ years so I don't see how that small cost for a name brand such as Spigen isn't worth it in comparison to the cost of an S10. If you wanted to save money you wouldn't have gotten an expensive high-end phone. Also you have problems with sweat but you want a slippery case? That sure seems like the opposite of what you should be going for. My advice is to rethink your phone purchases.

  • normal glass screen protectors decrease sensitivity ALOT on curved screen phones.
u need a whitestone dome protector or another brand like that. and even then u might have some phone case problems with the protector.
i will never buy a curved screen phone again because of it.

  • In the case of the s10, normal glass screen protectors will not allow the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor to work. AFAIK there's only one glass screen protector that works and it's made by Whitestone Dome Glass.

Any other plastic screen protector will work fine with the fingerprint sensor on the s10.

  • hmm thanks for the replies. im thinking about getting a wallet/flip case, is there any OK brands that aren't too expensive? spigen doesnt have any flip cases. preferably not leather (fake or real), ideally metallic or plastic.

EDIT: spigen has a flip case. lol seriously im blind.

  • Anything you add will decrease sensitivity, however, Glass is a good conductor so it's effect isn't that much. Plastic is a poor conductor but it's very thin so it has an even smaller effect.

As for which one to get?
Definitely a (proper fitting) Flat Tempered Glass Protector is much better. It glides under your finger and feels good, offers better scratch resistance, and actually offers good shock/crack resistance.

As for a case that's not finger smudge magnet, or not too heavy, or offers decent shock-absorbing… I would be thinking about different materials and their properties.

Metal isn't that good, because it transfers drop-shocks direct to the phone. Glass isn't good because it's too brittle. Silicone is quite good, but it requires thickness and spongey-feeling is kinda crap. Wood is probably a little better, but it's not a very malleable/mass production. One step better would be to use Aerospace-grade Polycarbonate with Matte texturing/non-glossy.

One of the most available ones is the Spigen Thin Fit case.

The unfortunate thing is the Samsung S10 and S10+ comes with curved displays. This means you get display distortion, light glares, accidental touches, increased fragility, and slippage. And most of all, you cannot protect it with a Glass Protector. As I said earlier, plastic screen protectors aren't as good.

You can get curved "glass" protectors, but 90% of them are fake/crap. The sides uncurl and the film ejects itself from the phone's display in a week. I have heard there are legitimate Curved Glass Protectors, that work as intended, but these require someone/professional installation and cost in excess of >USD $100. Still cheaper than a front glass or front display module, but not cost effective like $1 plastic, or $5 glass.

This is one of the reasons the LG G8 and the S10e are attractive devices: Flat-ish front glass/displays.

  • You're looking for a screen protector with an Oleophobic coating, that's the stuff that prevents fingerprints. Most decent tempered glass protectors will have it. I have a spigen protector and on of their hybrid cases (hard back, rubber sides), I'm happy with both and I drop my phone a lot.
