Techfast Desktop Intel i5 9400F GTX 1660 Ti

I recently purchased desktop from techfast from this deal:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/452738
Upgrade ssd to 480gb, gtx 1660 ti, and mobo h310m to b360m.

While i got the desktop relatively quick about 5 business days, I'm not entirely too happy with their parts quality i guess this comes down ro price.

I'm hoping to upgrade to better parts after the warranty finished in 12 months time. Any suggestion what need to be upgraded or can be upgraded?

I'm not a tech guru but few things come to my mind are:

  • psu upgrade from 550w to gold 750w
  • case? Maybe nzxt h500?
  • mobo… The one that i get is called "colorful" i didnt even know the name exist until google it.
  • memory to 16gb with 3000mhz?
  • maybe 2nd ssd either sata or m2.

I'm not a heavy user gamer and my monitor only 24" dell 1440p.

Thought?

You probably should've built your own pc in the first place if you have specific expectations in mind.

For PSU, your system probably only draws around 300w at most, at the moment. So an upgrade isn't necessary, but apparently the quality of it is important as it could fry your system if something were to happen.

For case, if you like the aesthetic then go for it. It's not going to do much for you other than that, costs quite a bit too.

I'd just keep the mobo, unless there's a feature you really, really want in a more expensive mobo

You aren't going to notice any difference in day to day task going from 2400mhz to 3000mhz ram. Definitely not worth it

Upgrade your storage as you need them

If you're not a heavy gamer and you only use it for usual stuff, I would not upgrade anything and as the guy above me said, upgrade storage as you need it.

What games do you play btw?

    • I dont play games in pc at the moment but planning to play 1st person shooter I'm suck at ps4 with their controller.
Would love to use keyboard and mouse just like good old counter strike days

1660 would easily cover any FPS game. If you have a decent mouse and keyboard, I suggest a 144hz monitor as that will probably enhance your experience the most out of any other computer part

        • I heard all the good things about 144hz except the price lol. Maybe that something i have to plan in the next 6 to 12 months, but who know with ozbargain there is always surprises and impulse purchases.

@Dualedge: Compared to upgrading your memory, mobo, SSD, case or PSU such as you were considering, a 144hz monitor is actually not that expensive. They go for a similar price, just $209 for a cheap one with FreeSync.

            • @Zazer: Didn't know 144hz monitor is that cheap… Good brand too.

          • @Dualedge: Definitely add another 8gb stick of the same ram you have already.

Then get a gsync (or NVIDIA approved freesync) 144hz monitor. Adaptive sync is so freaking good, it's unbelievable how many people are missing out by not investing in it. Think about it, it (along with kb and mouse) is your interface to the computer, it should be the best thing you can afford.

Get something like a Logitech with Hero sensor mouse, too easy. Reliable and trustworthy.

Motherboard only important if you get deep into overclocking. Otherwise spending money for the sake of spending money at this point. Might as well wait til Intel make the 9 series prematurely obsolete and upgrade to the next architecture in a couple years from now.

You will get no noticeable gain by changing existing sata SSD for a pcie m.2 nor from going from 2400 to 3000mhz ram.

            • @So lo: Been thinking about monitor actually… I will keep an eye out for it on ozbargain.. Would love a bigger size but it does come with price.

Thanks for your suggestion.. I will hold off spending more money on ssd and mobo.

      Lesson learnt

  • I bought the pc because my desktop blew up after good few years…. So i thought i gave this a chance.

    @butt scrather
Thanks for advice… I think psu in next 12 month in the way to go

My other question.. Is the gap between hdd and gpu enough?
