eBay Vouchers Disappearing

Anyone else experienced this problem with eBay vouchers? Several times I have bid successfully on an eBay item that has a discount voucher in the listing. When I go to pay for it the next day the voucher has disappeared and eBay don't recognise the discount. The voucher may have expired the previous day (a lot of them seem to last only one day), but you would expect eBay to honour them.

Why would you expect ebay to honor them if they expired?

I made the purchase while the voucher was active. No indication from ebay that you have to also pay for it on the same day.

The voucher is only used when redeemed at checkout, when you actually pay with it.
You did not use it before it expired.

        • hmm, understand the point. Not made clear on the voucher.

@[Deactivated]: Gift cards, gift vouchers and any promo codes are usually not considered used until you actually use it.

It's not just ebay, it's woolies, David Jones, everywhere. Your woolies gift card isn't applied until you actually put it in the system and use and pay with it.

            • @Ughhh: I didn't know checking voucher expiry date was so difficult.

The voucher expires at a certain time and date, why would it be honoured once its expired?

The voucher has to be valid during checkout. When you purchased the item is irrelevant.

Edit: I do see your point and agree that if the bidding ends after the voucher expires, it should not be advertised on the item.

  • I had that problem with an auction. When I spoke to eBay they honored it. However they said for future auctions if I see the code on the listing then I need to take a screen shot and keep it until the listing end. That way you can send them the image and they can honor it.

I also showed them another listing from a similar seller (same seller status etc) and yet the discount worked without any notification on the listing that the discount applied. So now it is a case of applying discount codes until a code works. Pretty crazy but if it saves you a few dollars (or few hundred) then I’m going to try. Interestingly eBay records the codes you try against a purchase as the eBay operator asked why I tried so many codes against my purchases. I actually had so many items I forgot which ones applied to which items. EBay should just stick with one decent code for a decent discount on all items instead of all these crazy codes that work one moment and don’t the next.

  • I had two vouchers just disappear yesterday. On eBay chat awaiting a response. They are suggesting an email response that may take up the 7 days
