Both of these two SSDs have got DRAM buffer, which are recommended if you intend to use one as a main system drive due to increased performance and endurance, as opposed to the cheaper DRAMless SSDs (which are still okay for data storage).
In terms of performance, the Samsung 860 EVO generally outperform the Crucial MX500. However, the MX500 does have a few extra features that the 860 EVO lacks (e.g. partial power loss protection) which some people may prefer. The 860 EVO also has higher endurance rating (at 300TBW) than the MX500 (180TBW) (Thanks FireRunner for noting). In general, the 860 EVO is the more recommended drive at the same price point, unless you like the features of the MX500.
A comparison of the two drives (albeit the 860 EVO is the 1TB variant, which is expected to perform better than the 500GB variant): https://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/2206?vs=2198
It might be worth considering Samsung Evo 860 500GB for $103.20 + $17 Cashback as well. They seem to be closely matched except endurancewise 300TBW (Samsung) vs 180TBW (Crucial)
