Modem 2.4g Dropping out 5g Working Fine

Have a TP link wireless modem . Every now and then 2.4g drops out from the wifi selection but 5g is always there and works fine

Modem is under warranty and does it every now and then (2.4g drops out) with similar wifi devices used

Is it TP link issue? My Netgear never did this.

Would this be a reason under warranty to get a refund? Purchased from Officeworks

Any input appreciated

May be prevalent issue due to iffy firmware updates

Check amazon reviews e.g. 2.4ghz does not work altogether on some modems like the archer c5400 post firmware updates

    • reinstall firmware.

      • Firmware never updated and drop off is every now and then without changes

you probably have too many of the same networks in the same channel in the area.
download and use wifi info view to see the networks around you
then go into the admin of the modem and change the channel from auto (usually set on this) to a random one which isn't listed on other networks when you checked wifi info view

    • This.

      • That.

        • Those

    • only channels 1 6 and 11 to avoid overlapping

  • I got a replacement tplink modem/router under warranty when I took it back to the computer store I bought it from. So at the very least you should get that. Officeworks would probably offer a refund if you pushed hard enough?

My netgear nighthawk a8000 did this today

I wonder what the underlying issue would be

    • Oh Netgear too

Could be the modem about to die too.

I had same issue but the 5G signal was struggling to hold

  • with similar wifi devices used

Now that I think about it, when I had a Z3 Compact phone, it used to kill my Wi-Fi also, had to buy a new modem…so weird…
