  • 2TB at $358 shipped is good too.

    • It's a good price but at 530MB/s, I give it a pass. Speed is very important

      • Its SATA. The speed is very good for SATA. Some people have to use SATA in their laptop.

      • Outside of a benchmark, you won't achieve anywhere near that with this drive.

Do ever since even maybe then?

    NAND M.2 SSD

Still waiting for a good deal on the NOR ones…

    • Do you know what NOR flash memory is?
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_memory

      • Do you know what NOR flash memory is?

I know it's much faster than NAND

        • See the article. They are usually known as EEPROM (electrically erasable programmable read only memory).

NOR chips are smaller is capacity (storage size), and more expensive; however, they can withstand more read/write cycles, and you can set/reset individual bytes. For NAND, you can only erase a complete sector (512 bytes).

Regarding speed, I am not sure, but I think NOR is slower to erase.

Edit: speed might be faster if you want to change individual bytes.

            Much faster to read from…

for an extra $20 I'd rather get the Silicon Power with 3200MBs/3000MBs read and write. 560/530 of the WD Blue is pretty bad.

    • Agreed. Those Phison drives are just a tad slower than 970 Evos for significantly less.

I'm not sure why you'd use a SATA 3 SSD in the precious m.2 slot …

      • +2

Some [mostly older] boards and laptops don't support nvme.

    • +2

Do note that these are completely separate type of drives however. WD Blue being M.2 SATA and Silicon Power being M.2 PCIe which makes it faster ;)

      • +3

Exactly. Ffs every time there is a sata m.2 deal the same smart people emerge. Some boards/laptops only support SATA m.2 so this is a great deal for those people who need SATA. 500mbs is pretty damn fast for SATA. NVME in the same slot would be zero, so Id rather get the drive that actually works in my device.

        • People are stupid plain and simple.

  • Please share your mini-itx build. I'm in for a new case. Coolermaster Q300L was one I saw, but had mixed reviews.

    • +1

Built a mini ITX with a Thermaltake Core V1. A little bigger than the traditional mini ITX but you can insert a full size GPU.

I have a Silverstone FT03 mini and a few other bits an pieces lying around so i wanna turn it into a media/gaming/lounge room PC
      i5-6500
      H270N-wifi
      ripjaws 2x8gb 2400
      zotac 1070ti mini
      Corsair SF750 PSU
      480gb kingston A400

The case however only has 1 bottom mounted 140mm intake fan and the MB mounts so that the IO and expansion slots are at the top.

However i will probably get the new Silverstone RVZ03 in the near future - seems like a good air flow mini itx case.

  • Save your money, this is a very slow drive, not as bad as the green but very slow.

    • What's a better alternative drive for the same price? ;)

        • Interface: PCI-Express NVMe 3.0 x4

Well that's not going to work is it? NVMe and SATA are different.

          • -1

@Clear: That is irrelevant, the point you perhaps intended to make is that the interfaces are different.

Specifically if you are constrained to SATA either wait for Samsung for Crucial to be on-sale.
Use a standard SSD if you can, but the point is unchanged that the performance of this drive is very bad, and this is nothing to do with being limited by SATA.

            • @[Deactivated]: It's not irrelevant when this is a deal on an M.2 SATA SSD and your alternative is a PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. They're not going to work with each other.
