Embrace the Past with Minecraft Classic

Hated every update we’ve ever released? Then it’s your lucky day!

In just ten days, our little crafting game turns ten years old! That means Minecraft still isn’t old enough to drive or run for president yet, but it is old enough for us to get all nostalgic for the good ol’ days of the game. Dangerously over-nostalgic? No, lovingly nostalgic, by releasing Minecraft Classic!

You can run Minecraft Classic in your browser and you’ll soon see why. With just 32 blocks to build with, all the original bugs, and an (inter)face only a mother could love, Minecraft 2009 is even more glorious than we remembered! You’re in for a real treat, particularly if you’re really into dyed wool (and who isn’t it?) Go back to a simpler time.

Minecraft editions were/are not free to play. This edition is.

if something that was not previously free is offered free temporarily or permanently, it qualifies as a deal

@jv: What is the 2 one?

                • +20

@jv: Is your life dedicated to being an (profanity) on ozb?
I never see you doing anything other than acting like you're a macho staff member…

                • +28

@jv: The one succeeding the first (1st) one and preceeding the third (3rd) one is the second (2nd) one, which is not what you wrote. I am only interested in the 2 (two) one. Please don't change the subject.

As a person who demands accuracy and precision from others, I now demand the same from you.

@jv: Hello I'm looking for the 2 one

This was always available until Windows 10, then they removed it (I believe).

      Not always, huh?

        contextual clues help bra

        • Earlier around 2010 when the game was still in beta they had an alpha version available playable on the browser. There were no NPCs (mobs) but it was a cheeky little taster.

My lucky day would be if you let me download older versions of apps on Google Play like you can on Apple, so I could download the older version of the full game that still runs on the Xperia Play with keypad support. IIRC it (profanity) launched as an XP exclusive for shit's sake. I have to keep the old school demo version in my download list whenever I fire up the Xperia Play because the newer version (that I own, don't worry, I'm not pirating it or anything) doesn't even work on it anymore. Sucks ass man.

Not that I even really play Minecraft or ever did, it was just fun on that phone on the toilet. Solid port.

So it was for shifting bricks?

Genuinely thought Minecraft was a free game.

    TIL…

    • +3

      Over 100 million copies sold…

They say the same thing about Fortnite, that's free right?

        • +7

Fortnite has two versions. The PvP version (most popular) is free, the PvE version is paid (not popular)

  • Microsoft paid something like a billion dollars for minecraft.

    • they also added it to hololens (augmented reality) which looks pretty sick!
