My Billion 7800NXL ADSL2 modem has been retired for more than a year after I switched to Cable Internet. I am wondering what people would do to this kind of modems when they switched to Cable internet or NBN? Do you give it away or bring it to a recycle place? Or can you use it as a hub/router or wifi extender? Is there any recycle place for the modem in Adelaide?

As you mentioned I've turned old modem/router into a switch before. I'm not too tech savvy but there are plenty of guides online which walk you through the process.
Put it on gumtree
Put it in the ewaste recycling bin at Bunnings - definitely at the Mile End and Marion branches in Adelaide and probably at others.
You can use it as a router, a switch, an access point, and depending on its capability, a wireless bridge.
I think I will try converting it to a switch before sending it to eWaste. Thanks everyone for your idea.
Can you give it to me if you decide to dump it? I will pay for the postage
Wipe the configuration/factory reset and take it to your local officeworks. They will recycle it via eWaste.
