Temporarily out of stock since posting but you can make a back order. Look for the $129 listing from Amazon AU on the right hand side.

A moderately popular and well reviewed monitor. Equalling the historical low price of $129.

The LED panel is full 8-bit, and the back has VESA mounting holes. A big negative is BenQ's poor defective pixel policy. BenQ used to have a zero bright pixel warranty and an okay overall pixel warranty. After several revisions we ended up with this joke.

  • How does the eye care actually work? I there any benefit?

    • Apparently blue light is bad for your eyes so the monitor reduces the amount of blue light to reduce strain on eyes. I wouldn't have a clue if it works or not.

Your text still comes up as poor quality even though i have a high resolution screen.

        • So 1080p is poor quality nowa days?

      • +6

        Couldn't you just use flux?

(software that changes the colour tone/less blue light through the afternoon into night)

        • +4

Windows 10 now has the functionality built in too.

        • +2

It depends on the input, such as console gaming that doesn't have that feature.

  • So does anyone actually have this monitor? Any thoughts?

My wife wants something to connect her Apple laptop to for additional productivity (essentially just working on Word docs), so that would be almost its sole purpose beyond some web surfing.

    • +2

I have the GW2470HL which I believe uses the same panel. Colours are beautiful (really pop) out of the box and contrast is very good, so I've found it great for productivity/movies etc, but motion is average (wouldn't recommend for gaming) - an inherent problem with VA displays.

Use it with my MacBook Pro - text rendering isn't amazing compared to on Windows (only 1080p) but can't complain for the price.

I have the same one. I think it works well. I mainly use it for switch gaming, web browsing and watch videos. All comfortable.

  • is this any good?

    • It is kinda small of the screen, I find difficult to play game on it

      • +3

Haha, I remember when 20" screen were huge and great for game playing! I guess everyone wants at least 40" these days or something?

  • Thanks OP. Ordred for my laptop.

  • I bought these for work, they have great colours (probably thanks to a native 8 bit panel). Although if you're using it in a dual/multi screen setup, there may be some inconsistencies in colour and contrast between different units so better if you have a calibration tool like Spyder. One of mine was slightly green and the other was slightly red.

When the colour calibration tool coats more than the monitor

Gotta love amazon, one swipe and 5 sexonds later, got a monitor coming to my door, cheers op

    • How is Amazon any different to eBay in this regard?

      • You'll probably get it delivered within a week.

For those wondering about VA panel Vs ips/tn etc

IPS offers the best overall visual quality and the widest viewing angles.
TN panels lag behind in this regard, but they make up for it by offering better performance i.e. higher refresh rates and lower response time.
Meanwhile, VA panels offer visuals similar to those of IPS panels, and can also reach the performance levels of TN panels, although most displays equipped with this technology actually tend to have the highest response times of the three.

VA panels offer visuals similar to those of IPS panels

No, they typically have slightly worse colour reproduction but better black levels and contrast leading to overall better image quality.

and can also reach the performance levels of TN panels

      Outright bs.

      • so how would you rank the order from best to worst?

Also what about other tech like OLED and MicroLED

        where would they rank?

        • There’s almost no oled monitors on the market. I think Asus released a 22” oled monitor but it’s over $1000 so it’s not a feasible option to consider oled monitors outside of IPS, VA and TA

          • @phokingwhy: yeah but i am still interested in the ranking of best to worst

            • @pinkybrain: There's no microled screens on the market yet so pretty hard to say but likely
              microLED > OLED > IPS >= VA >>> TN
Depending on the quality of a particular panel, sometimes VA can be better than IPS and vise versa. Generally VA has better blacks and contrast while IPS has better viewing angles and colour uniformity but bad blacks, so it can come down to personal preference as well.

  • Can I mixed 23" monitor with 19" monitor at different resolution?

    • Yes

    • windows 10 supports different resolution screens

  • Was planning to buy this Philips monitor from Officeworks for $98. Would this be any better?

    • +2

      BenQ one is definitely better

    • This one's larger and has a VA panel, so much better colours and contrast (lower black levels). Philips should be better for gaming though (uses a TN panel).

    • I suspect the TN panel used in the Philips will be a 6-bit panel.

  • Looks like it is out of stock direct from Amazon, although can still place an order…

    • Ordered one, hopefully don't get a cancellation email.

  • How is this Benq monitor compare to a Dell model SE2417HG at outlet site for $139 ?

  • Silly question again, can this monitor connect to a Surface Pro 4? Just missed the other one….

  • What's this like for gaming?

    • +1

Average, without AMA ("overdrive") enabled and set to premium, I didn't enjoy gaming (and I very rarely game). With it enabled, slightly better but far from TN performance and some overshoot.

EDIT: For reference, was a noticeable stepdown re: gaming coming from my 5-year old Samsung 2ms TN panel.

      • It wont be a problem if I am using it mainly for office works and watching Movies? Youtube?

        • That's what I use my two for. Great for movies, productivity etc. Would suggest going into the settings and setting AMA to premium though which eliminates the ghosting that some might notice in darker scenes of movies, tv etc…

  • tell myself: do not buy and list ozbargain to the blacklist ~~~
