Dashcam Died Less than 2 Months out of Warranty, Any Chance to Have It Covered in Warranty?

We bought the expensive DOD500s-2ch late Mar last year. The first set was DOA. So they asked us to send the faulty one back to them and checked and confirmed, and then send us another set. This unit seemed to work ok. This morning, after I drove out the drove way, i happened to have a quick check on the indicators on the dashcam (both front and rear), none was on. I did everything I could, the dashcam simply could not be turned on. Pretty sure it is not the issue of power source.

Anyway, I remember I read about for a few times on ozbargain if the product becomes faulty just out of the warranty period, it should still be covered by the warranty. Can anyone advise the details and if it is possible to have my dead dashcam covered by warranty? (I have already sent an email to the supplier). Without a dashcam or two, dont feel as comfortable and confident when I drive on Sydney's roads. lol

  • Eliminate all possibilities, check that power source first.

    • I have tried everything including removing the sd-card. no luck :(

Did you try using a different power source to power the camera? Check that the car cigarette lighter is operating in the first place as the fuse might have blown. The unit may have a reset button, press that too (might need to hold it down a few secs).

        • I tried everything you mentioned, but nothing worked. I dont understand how resetting the unit would work when it is not powered.

          • @aec: Reset it while it is plugged into a power source.

Have you tried using a different power source like a wall power outlet with USB charger?

            • @trex: Tried just now, but still no luck :(

              Thank you anyway.

  • you are referring to Statutory warranty. you should talk to the retailer.

If the retailer is in Australia and the product is not a grey import, you can exercise your rights under the ACL.

If not, it's time for a new dashcam.

    • Genuine question, doesn't it run out after 12 months?

      • No. It runs out after a reasonable expected service life of the product. It is arguable how long that is but 14 months is definitely premature death.

    • The retailer is in Perth, and it is not grey import. The retailer does put 12 months warranty on their website.

What is my exact right under the ACL?

What is my exact right under the ACL?

        Is the ACL website broken?

My brother hurt his ACL playing footy.

  • opps missed the expensive part… all depends on who you bought it off

  • Pretty sure it is not the issue of power source.

    Check the fuse.

  • Off topic, but I don't really understand how having or not having a dashcam affects OP's driving confidence. The cam will only ever record what has happened, not prevent anything.

    • Dash cams are used to record events that may be used as evidence in insurance claims, traffic offences or criminal offences.

      • Exactly.

      • I understand that, but OP made reference to their own driving confidence.
Surely the intent whilst driving is to avoid accidents, traffic infringements, or avoid criminal offences, regardless if there is a camera installed or not.

If one or more of those things does happen, then the camera serves its purpose as a record of the event.

    • I can confidently say that my driving is very different when in my cars (all of which are wired in Blackvue reliable front-rear dashcam) vs someone else's car.

I don't take unnecessary evasive maneuvers that are actually statistically more likely to cause a collision and/or a worse collision. I'll happily take the most rule abiding course of action and if someone ploughs into me, I couldn't care less.

It would be rudimentary to defend my position and losing the use of one car is minimal/no inconvenience to me.

(Full comprehensive insurance on all but beater car. Beater car has third party property).

    • I did check the dashcamtalk last year before and after i bought this dashcam last year. The issues summarised by that op were mostly fixed by updating the fw. however, the more recent comments show those owners had same/similar issues as mine.

I should check productreview earlier. otherwise, i would definitely not buy the crap.

I contacted the retailer in melbourne and DOD's office in perth. basically, i have to pay for the repair. no way, i will give one more cent to this rubbish taiwanese company.

      • My comment doesn't really add anything to your question, but just going by the advertsing images this camera looks quite cheaply made. Taiwanese make great stuff, this doesn't appear to be one of those products though.
