Sony 24 F1.4 Gm or Tamron 28-75 F2.8

hi everyone
just bought a sony a7iii from one of the recent deals and now i need a lens. i’ve watch about a thousand youtube videos and i’ve decided i want to start with either the sony 24mm f1.4 gm or the tamron 28-75mm f2.8.

sadly, i can’t seem to find either at a deal price like 15-20% off.
for those in the know, is there a certain time of year lenses go on sale? do i wait for eofy?

are there other lenses people swear by in the sony range?
keen to hear your experiences with sony and 3rd party lenses and what your buy tactics are

    What are you using at the moment? Depending on what you shoot most regularly a 24mm might be restrictive.

    Also, the two lenses you've listed are at a fairly different price range?

      right now i have a canon 5d mark 2 with the 24-105 mainly

      i’m probably going to end up getting both these lenses but i can’t get them all at once so i’m trying to decide what to get first.

      24 is the better lens but i’d have to zoom with my feet

      the tamron is more flexible but a lot of reviewers say that losing the 4mm at the bottom makes a big difference.

      i was also looking at the 24-70 gm but thought it’s not worth the money because i’ll still want the 24 f1.4 gm for astro down the track

        Ah okay, it will be a significant upgrade if you're used to the 24-105!

        What do you shoot mostly? If you do mostly astro, I would actually recommend either:
        - Samyang/Rokinon 14mm 2.8 (manual focus, aperture lens and very affordable)
        - Sigma 14mm 1.8 (haven't used this one personally but apparently it is an excellent astro lens).

          ill probably be shooting the family the most but i am really interested in astro so i thought id give it a start and see what i could get before i go for a lens specifically for that purpose.

          i figured with the 24 i could also go into APSC mode and use it like a 35 which is interesting too

        Sadly JB had the 24105 for $1600 a couple weeks ago. First time I'd seen it that cheap. It's what I was shooting with on a recent trip. Pricey but was good with the extra reach.

            @nimnomnimy: yup. Actually $1600 is for local stock. I got mine (grey) for around $1630 after an ebay voucher.

              @Caped Baldy: i like the size and range of the 24-105 but it’s heavier, more expensive than the tamron with higher f stop. that’s why i ruled that one out

    managed to get new quality tamron cheap.
    still on the lookout for a deal on the 24 gm
