Car Accident: Got Hit from Rear and I Hit Infront Car

Guys,

This is not my fault and my car rear end damaged heavily than front part. I have comprehensive insurance with AA company and the person who hit my car has BB company insurance.

Now I can claim from either of two companies.
But I have lodged claim with BB instead of my company.

My questions are :
1) Do these companies ( AA or BB) actually repair cars effectively? Or Just they do exterior work and don’t really go through inner parts of car ?

2) Is there any difference if I lodge claim with my company AA or others BB?

3) Does this increase my premium?

Just lodge it with your insurance company and let them do the running around. They'll need to claim from insurer 1 (the car that hit your rear), and pay money to insurer 2 (the car who you hit).

Insurance company doesn't do the repairs, the repair shop does. Choose a reputable one (Google is your friend).

Have you forgotten insurer CC too?

    Just lodge through yours

    Does this increase my premium?

Probably because you hit someone's car

Probably because you hit someone's car

I've seen this go both ways a few times. If OP was stopped in traffic/at the traffic lights and got hit from behind forcing OP into the car in front, then if OP's insurance does a good job then they should not have to pay an at fault excess or incur any kind of premium increase.

That being said, if OP and the person who hit OP were with the same company OP would probably be coughing up, but it sounds like they have different insurance companies so should be fine. Unless OP's insurance case manager is rubbish, in which case what can you do? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • Some insurance companies (e.g. AAMI) have their own repair company (Capital Smart) and won't let you choose your own repairer.

I've been in the exact situation you describe. Provided the first driver only felt one hit, the back car is liable for both. My premiums didn't go up, nor was I out of pocket.

    1. They will send you to their authorized repairers and they should provide a guarantee for their work if any problem arises. If you don’t trust them, you can find your own repairer and see if they’ll deal with the insurance on behalf of you. Generally you just need a claim number and your repairer will take care of everything.

    2. No difference.

    3. Hard to say. Insurance has told my parents that their premium increased because they are identified as high risk. High risk can also mean that you attract shit drivers hitting you apparently. Personally, my premium goes up every year anyway with no claim. It may look like premium hasn’t increased but that may be because they reduced the agreed value of your car. Therefore, reducing the increased premium if that makes any sense.

    • You are a bad, bad man.

      • Whys that?

        • My guess is bargainhunter87 thinks you're takeing the piss with the OP as he's been pushed into the car in front of him by the car which rammed him from behind.

His insurance isn't going to have to pay for his car front or the back of the first car.

    1. Yes, You'll have lifetime guarantees of repairs

    2) Lodge a claim with your own company. That is what you pay for

    3) Depends if they determine you were too close to the car in front.

  • Finally we have an insurance post where all parties have insurance. You also have comprehensive insurance. Congratulations. Now is the time to put your insurance to good use.

Please remember a lot would depend on how you describe the accident to the insurer. I had a similar accident on a rainy day few months ago. I explained to my insurer that a car hit me on the rear and pushed me into the vehicle ahead. My car had a hairline crack on the front bumper as well as crushed rear. I was never charged any excess. All the claims were paid out by the rear car's insurer.

I was initially told by friends and family that I will be liable for the front damage and the car in front. Dunno if it was the vehicle ahead making no claim OR the way I explained the accident to my insurer that got me out of paying any excess. Do share any dashcam footage you may have of the accident if it strenghtens your case.

  • I was in the same situation but the front car. I just provided my insurance all driver's details and they deal with all of them. My car got sent to my insurance approved repairer

It makes a nice change from the usual… “I was parked in a no stopping area for only 3 hours and got a ticket. How do I loophole this so I don’t have to pay” threads…

  • DO these people..

    Yes they do

Don't forget if your insurance policy doesn't give you a free hire car, you can get one and claim the cost at www.Right2Drive.com.au or www.notmyfault.com.au

    • or go to Sheen Panel…most of the time they will have a car available. Happen to me and a friend.
